chapter one;
not-so-straight crisis!

ZACH SIGHED staring at his phone, waiting for a reply. He had texted Amberlin a while ago. Zach had asked her to come over to his place to talk, vaguely explaining that it was for help.

Zach didn't know what to do in that moment, he usually never had to go out of his way to ask for help, much less advice. Though, he figured out pretty soon that pining would more or so change that, especially if it was over a boy. He didn't like these feelings he'd been having lately, he found them to be somewhat of a nuisance. So, he'd been supressing them for awhile, hoping they'd go away on their own so he wouldn't have to ever  talk about them. Although, even if Zach had many specialties, like being effortlessly good at sports and having an (odd) excellence at keeping things hidden, ignoring his emotions wasn't among any of them.

In the past month or so, Zach had noticed a slow but drastic change in his behavior when he was around the boy. His glances shifted from amusement and slight annoyance to fondness and longing. He noticed how is nonchalant demeanor would often crack when he  was around, how he would stumble upon his words and how his heart would seize when they touched (which was a lot). The way he spoke was no longer easy and fun, his tone would become loving and earnest when it was directed towards him. His overall being changed when he was around him.

It did in fact take Zach some time to realize these changes, but when he did, he had freaked. If the situation had been any different, he thought maybe he'd be accepting of it, he'd willingly  let himself fall for the boy. Though things were difficult, given that said boy was head over heels for a certain girl, more specifically, Jessica Davis.

He'd developed feelings for Alex Standall.

Zach groaned, eyes closed as he threw himself back onto his couch, He had felt the beginning of a migraine start from his little recap. He didn't like these emotions knowing that it'll never be anything more. He hated it, really. Not to mention how it put more emotional stress on him, already in a quarrel with his mother.

As Zach laid there deep in thought, Amberlin had already let herself into the Dempsey household, being that Zach had become too distracted with his thoughts to hear her knocks. She stood at the doorway for a moment, contemplating whether she should let him figure out what ever turmoil he was having and realize she had arrived or let her presence be known. She decided on the latter,  approaching him with a smile.

"hey dipshit! anyone home?" Zach shot up, startled by the knowledge of someone else being there. Amberlin cackled quietly at this, knowing how lost he must feel. "you weren't answering the door or any of my messages, so I let myself in," she explained as she dangled her spare key towards him.
