As Christian sat down I could see the smirk curling onto the edge of his lips. He must have something good planned if he risked coming here during the trial and promised that he would help get Kayla back I thought as my lawyer stood up with the papers that the man had given to her as she walked toward Christian.

"Mr. Meyers, you were sent to prision right?"

"Yes ma'am."

"It was because someone accused you of r@ping a minor correct?"

"Yes, ma'am it was."

"the defense would like to submit evidence that a court provided to say that Mr. Meyers is clear of all charges and was wrongly accused. He is no longer a possible danger since he never commited the act in question." She stated as she walked away and sat down.

"Anything else?" The judge asked as he looked between Mrs. Sanchez and Scott's lawyer. I could see Scott's lawyer trying to figure out a way to object but before he could, the judge called the case over an dallowed the jury to leave in order to dilberate.

Once it was okay for me to get up, I scotted my chair back and got up to leave. But, Christian grabbed my arm gently, turning my to face him. I could feel his green eyes on me, but I did everything I could do to not meet his gaze. Instead, I stared down at my shoes.black peep toe heels that showed off my red toe nails. My eyes followed the errors in my polish on my toes as Christian spoke, trying to gain my attention.

“Kayla, please hear me out.”

My mouth stayed sealed shut. I wanted to hear what he had to say, but I didn’t think that it would change anything. Of course I still loved him, but after hearing what he had done, I couldn’t put my daughter into that situation even if the court cleared him. I had another life to worry about now, and I couldn’t be selfish anymore. Tessa was who was important to me, and I wasn’t going to put her near Christian after what he did to that poor girl.

“I’m telling the truth when I say that I never touched that girl. She was lying!”

The fact that he was saying that that girl had lied about being sexually harrassed was making me angry. Why would anyone joke about something as serious as r@pe? After what I found out before, I didn't know whether I was able to even trust him anymore. Trust was something I didn't give out freely these days.

I still didn't respond to him. I tapped the toe of my shoes together three times, hoping that they would take me away from here. Maybe even allow me to go back to before I had gone to that party and slept with Scott. Then none of this would be happening. The only downside to that would be that I wouldn't have Tessa, and she makes everything worth it. I looked up at Christian, finally meeting his eyes.

"I went to talk to the girl's mother and I told her everything that happened to you because of the accusation. Not once did I touch her daughter inapropriately! I think I struck a chord with her because she felt bad for me and finally confessed that her daughter had come to her a year after the trial to admit that she had lied about everything."

I tilted my head to the side, voicing my thoughts from earlier. "Why would someone lie about that?"

Christian shrugged his shoulders, cupping my face in his hands. "Apparently she was taken advantage of by someone in her class and didn’t want to admit it."

I shook my head. "How do I know that I can believe you? I can't just trust that sheet of paper. I have to know for sure Christian."

His face lowered a bit, nearing mine as he spoke. "I've never given you a reason not to believe me before. That was something from my past that I knew wasn't true, so why would I tell you something that would only make you think the worst of me, when that's not who I am."

I shruged my shoulders in response, not trusting myself to talk.

"I care so much about you and Tessa, and I would never do anything to hurt either of you. You know that. I'd risk my life for you two."

"Risk your life?" I questioned, scoffing.

He nodded, his eyes sincere. "I would. You don't understand how much you two mean to me."

I stared into his eyes, searching for any sign that he wasn't telling the truth. Despite my better judgement, I couldn't find a reason not to trust him. He was such a great guy and he was never anything but sweet to Tessa and I. A judge had submitted a formal apology and provided him with the evidence so that I had a better chance of getting Tessa, but was it worth it? Had it worked out for me and Tessa?

I thought for a moment about what my dad would tell me, he would say that I had a new life now and because of that I had a new chance at life. I took a deep breath and decided to trust my heart and take a risk, hoping that it would work for the best.

I held my finger up to him. "You have one chance. One," I said emphasizing the number. "You can't lie to me anymore. I want the truth no matter how much you think it'll hurt. Whatever the truth is, we'll find a way to get through it together. Okay?"

Christian nodded his head quickly. "Okay. Thank you, thank you, thank you," he exclaimed, pulling my body into his and resting his head in the crook of my neck. He breathed in deeply, his exhales blowing at my hair. "I missed you guys so much."

I breather in his scent. It was outdoorsy and intoxicating. He smelled like freshly cut wood and that light airy scent that tinges the air after an April shower. "I mised you too," I sighed. I truly did miss having him around. He made me happy, and Tessa loved him. "I have one more condition," I said, speaking the words into his ear.

"Anything."

I smiled at his answer, but still told him what it was. "You can't leave like Scott did."

Christian pressed his lips to my collarbone, kissing it gently. "I don't plan on it." He said as the jury came back into the courtroom with their decision.

"Do you have a verdict?" The judge asked as Christian wrapped his arm around my waist and hugged me close.

"Yes, the defendent is free to have the child. She should not be punished for having a boyfriend who was wrongfully accused."

"Case closed, have a nice day." The judge said as he slammed the gavel on his stand and got up to walk out.

I let out a happy shriek as I jumped into Christian's arms. Without thinking I planted a kiss onto his lips and let the butterflies scramble in my stomach. We heard someone clear their throat, but we didn't break the kiss until Christian had placed me back on my feet. I turned to see Scott behind me, and I fet Christian tense.

"What do you want Scott?"

"I just came by to say have a nice life and to ask Christian to take care of you both. I'm sorry I wasn't there but I'm glad you found someone else." He said with a curt nod as he turned on a heel and walked out.

"Forget about him. I have a new life without him." I said with a smile as I hugged Christian to me and my parents came to join us.

"Lets get Tessa and celebrate," Christian offered as he took my hand in his. "I can't wait to see her and her mother together again."

"Thank you for making this possible."

"And thank you for giving me one more chance, I won't screw it up I promise." He promised and something told me he would hold up to it.
