her grandmother used to allow her to watch
retro cartoons on television
like the flintstones, the jetsons, and
her favorite, tom & jerry,
about a cat and mouse who try to
outwit each other
by cleverly injuring the other.
those kinds of cartoons weren’t being made for kids anymore
because the slapstick was “too violent” and it was a "bad influence".
she wonders if this is why she can’t tell
what is off limits.
