Chapter 15: Will You Be Mine?

Your P.O.V.

"Will you be my girlfriend?" was all that rang in my thoughts. I was too shocked, so all I did was stare at him with a widely opened mouth. I collapsed onto the floor and sat there, staring at him. A few minutes passed, and Len looked at me, really upset.

"I-Is it because I'm not good enough?" He asked, choking on his own words. He was still taking a knee, so we were at eye-level. I shook my head and clasped his hands together with mine.

"No, you're perfect. It's just that I don't think I deserve you. You are way too good for me-"

"No, I'm not! Everybody is equal! They are all worth it! Don't go around saying you aren't anything! To me, you are the entire universe!" Len confessed.

"Len...."

"Just please don't say you aren't worth it! Please...." I was speechless. I didn't think he would react this way. I smiled softly and put my forehead against his, kissing his cheek. Len looked away embarrassed and stood up abruptly.

"I need to go now! Bye!" and with that, he was gone.

"WHAT?! HE'S YOUR BOYFRIEND?!" Rin screeched. Currently, we were sitting in the common area, lounging around

"Mmhm...!" I admitted, voice muffled by the pillow I hugged against my face.

"OH MY GOD. RINTO IS GOING TO BE SO-"

"What are you two talking about me?" Rinto asked, walking in.

"You will not believe it!!! [Y/N] and Len are dating!!!" Rin spat out, not giving a care about how loud she was.
Rinto's eyes had a flash of disappointment, but had a mask of happiness to cover it up.

"Wow! Congrats [Y/N]! I knew you could do it!" Rinto cheered about to put his arm around me, but backed off and looked away.

"Thanks Rinto! I'm glad you aren't freaking out..." I heaved a sigh of relief. Rinto laughed and waved.

"I have to go finish some homework! See you around!"

Ah. He's freaking out.

♤Rinto's P.O.V.♤

Not knowing what to say, I just said the words that I would regret the most.

"Wow! Congrats [Y/N]! I knew you could do it!" I cheered. I was about to wrap my arm around her shoulder, but I hesitated, and stopped. I dropped my arm to my side and looked away.
Don't cry, don't cry.

"Thanks Rinto! I'm glad you aren't freaking out..." she said, heaving a sigh of relief.

It hurts a lot.

I smiled. A fake one. If only I had asked her earlier. No. She wouldn't accept Len if she would accept me. She isn't the person to do that. Not wanting to stay any longer, I bid my goodbye.

"I have to go finish some homework! See you around!" I chuckled.

"Ok..." [Y/N] softly spoke, confused. Once I was out of her sight, I broke into a run. I wanted to be as far as I could be from her. I wanted to give up. She was my everything. And I lost her just like that.

She doesn't matter anymore. She's not anything. She's not-

Lies.

I realized that I ran all the way to the beach. She is still lingering in my mind. She is still everything to me. I stopped running and fell to my knees, crying. Why did it have to be like this?

Is this what they call a heartbreak?

Before I stood up to leave, somebody called out to me.

"You want to talk?" It was Rin. Flustered, I wiped my tears and smiled at her painfully. Not even a second to react, Rin slapped me, making me look the other way.

"ARE YOU KIDDING ME? YOU'RE STILL SMILING? YOU'VE ALWAYS GIVEN ME THIS FAKE SMILE EVER SINCE WE WERE LITTLE!!!" Rin shrieked. I stayed silent, looking pitiful.

I was a coward. A coward that couldn't accept the outcomes. A coward too afraid to show their true emotions.

"You know what happened before! I'm scared Rin! I'm scared of hurting the people I care about! I'm... scared of it happening again." I sobbed.

Rin clenched her hands into fists and raised her fist at me, but stopped. Tears started streaming down her eyes too.

Love is a beautiful creation that turns into a monster.

"Why.... Why does it have to be you? Why do you have to be the one to have it?" She wailed, hiding her face, "You know that [Y/N] had always loved Len, yet you decide to stay in the one-sided love zone, and become hurt."

Love is war.

"I'm sorry-" my apology was cut off by my intense coughing.

"Rinto! RINTO!!!!"

...and with that, a single flower petal landed.

◇Your P.O.V.◇

The door to our dorm suddenly swung open, averting my attention to it. There, I saw was Rin, with a beat-up Rinto resting on her shoulder.

"[Y/N]! HELP!" Rin cried, face in a complete mess.

"What happened?!" I asked, grabbing Rinto, who smiled meekly at me before coughing violently. I noticed a flower petal in his mouth, and tried to ask about it. Rinto clapped his hand over his mouth, but it was too late. I had already seen it.

"Rinto! When did you have this cough?!" I asked, panic rushing through my veins.

"He's had it ever since the day you left. He was only able to withstand it because you never chose anybody at that time, and he rarely got to see you."
I shook my head and sat him down.

"We need to bring him to a hospital!" I urged. Rin had already called emergency, who was on their way.

"I never knew..." I breathed. Len suddenly bursted through the door with distraught on his face and bolted to the bedside.

"What's his condition right now Rin?"

"His pulse is weak! At this rate he's going to have to...."

"What's going on Rin? Len?" I anxiously asked.

"Rinto is diagnosed with the mythical Hanahaki disease."

Love hurts.

A/N: Hanahaki disease is caused by one-sided love, and is very dangerous. The lungs start producing flowers, which clogs up the respiratory system, causing difficulty in breathing, and excessive coughing.

Flower petals start coming out the mouth, and cannot be digested, as they are poisonous.

The more stronger the one-sided love is, the more serious. The more hurt the person diagnosed with it, the more deadly. Eventually, it chokes the person to death.

The only cure for it is either if the person stops loving the person, or if the person loves them back. The last option is safest, but not favourable, and that is to take surgery to get rid of it.

Once surgery is complete, all emotions of the person will disappear, and they will be nothing more than a meat puppet. My story has a deep twisty turn though.

Thankfully this disease is not real, otherwise I would've died a long time ago because I can't be with any anime dudes. Sorry for the short chapter.
