The mind of her little brother was a mind under siege. Lorie couldn't fathom how her little brother could hold such thoughts in such a young and impressionable mind. But time and again, whenever she snuck into her little brother's room to steal clandestine peaks into her brother's journal, she kept wondering what the hell had warped his mind that way.
They weren't anything literary or even genre-savvy, such as his brother's penchant for splatterpunk or any form of horror he likes to watch on TV. They were merely just vignettes and half-realized passages and observations in his dreams. A dream journal, really.
But she couldn't shake the feeling that something was wrong with her brother. So she decided to intervene and confront her brother about it on the weekends, probably Saturday.
So she took her brother's dream journal and poured over the most recent entries. She was shocked, to say the least.
A passage of goblins and fairies in a cyberpunk-like dystopian city doing various things from the mundane to the downright sexy, too sexy for 11-year-olds to think about, let alone write about.
Another passage with the same content, but with the added part of getting caught looking into something he shouldn't have.
Yet another passage with the added part of cop sirens entering into the fray, followed by running footsteps up the stairs and into the floor where his brother was peaking through a curtained window.
And then the most recent passage, an incomplete passage followed by an ellipse, the passage trailing off in a row of dots, as if the writer / dreamer had a hard time visualizing or comprehending what he experienced in the dream.
Her heart beats picked up.
Something was up.
She need to find out what's going on with her little brother.
