Look at some locations

Heartland has many locations where it's filmed. The Heartland ranch, the Dude Ranch, Caleb's trailer, Maggie's Diner, and a studio in Calgary. All of these locations are not public except Maggie's Diner. The Dude Ranch is located close to Heartland. Caleb's trailer is close to Heartland as well. As for Maggie's Diner, it is located in the town of High River. Maggie's Diner is the only public place you can go where Heartland is filmed.
Even though Maggie's may be a public place, you cannot go inside. It is locked up because of filming equipment, and because it's only used for filming. At first, I thought Maggie's was a real working restaurant, but it turns out it's not. Maggie's was built especially for the filming of Heartland. You can always stand outside and get your picture made in front of Maggie's. You can peek inside, but can't go in.
The Heartland studio is located in the city of Calgary. Calgary is about an hour and a half from the Heartland ranch. That's why they do all the interior scenes at once. Then all the outside scenes another day.
