This legend has to do with toilets, paper, and hell. Sounds great, doesn't it?

Anyways, let's get right into it. There's apparently a mysterious figure named Aka Manto. In a lot of depictions of him, he's a man wearing a mask to hide his face with some red attire on.

If a person is sitting on the toilet (usually the last stall), a mysterious voice will ask them if they want red paper or blue paper. This is Aka Manto. He might make himself visible by opening up the stall door, but there is a chance he will simply leave himself unseen. If they choose red paper, they will be sliced apart until their clothes are stained red. If they choose blue paper, they will be strangled until their face turns blue.

If you try to outsmart him and try to dodge the question, he'll just simply drag you into the depths of hell. The same happens if you try to escape, fight him, or tell him that you want a color of paper other than the ones he mentioned.

Another version of this story, the ghost will ask if you want a red cape or a blue cape. If you pick the red cape, he'll actually straight up rip the skin off of your back to create a "red cape", and if you pick the blue cape, he'll drain all of the blood from your body until you are blue.

Aka Manto's ways of killing his victims seem a lot like he just wants to use an ironic pun he came up with to kill people, but I wouldn't know myself. Nobody really knows his origins or backstory, so he is a rather mysterious spirit.

But luckily, in this legend, there is a way to not get murdered or dragged to a fiery demise.

Just wait until he asks the question, and then reply "No Paper." He will just leave you alone, so you can go finish your business and live to see another day.
