A little bird in a cage
Behind the silver bars
wondering when it will be able to fly
Sitting there, singing in the dark
With a song so sad it could make the dead cry.
So filled with sorrow
So  filled with the longing to fly
But it cannot, so it slowly begins to die
And I ask why
Why won't you let the little bird fly
To see it happy and still alive
And when you didn't answer I understood why
That you too are caged but in a different way
Set in place that sorrow, grief and loneliness had captured you.
Swallowed you and kept you there in its hold.
And so you stood there
Encased in the crooked fingers of life.
So never being able to find the slightest light
Enraptured by the darkness
You said your final goodbye.
And so I'll never forget to tell your story
You,
A little bird in a cage.
