"Oh, God..." Carter moaned.
Mia's lips parted as she cupped his mouth. She looked around and chuckled nervously at the people seated nearby. They were in a public place, a diner an hour away from home that sells Carter's recent obsession - strawberry cream puffs.
"Babe, what the heck?" Mia scoffed, wiping the cream on his lips while Carter looked like he just had an orgasm after taking a bite of the dessert.
"This is the best cream puffs I've had in a long while," Carter moaned. He kissed her hand when Mia pulled it away.
"You don't like sweets," Mia pointed out.
"Maybe I'm just getting old," Carter hummed, staring as Mia took her first bite. "Tell me if that doesn't taste so good?"
"So nice!" Mia quoted, and Aya's punchline never gets old.
"She would like this," Carter said, "She loves strawberries, right?"
"In a strawberry dress with strawberry headbands for her pigtails - I'm pretty sure she would love this," Mia scoffed. She never thought a day like that would happen, just them having a Saturday date talking about a random kid they met a long time ago. "And she's definitely older than the last time we saw her."
"A year ago isn't that long ago," Carter munched on the puffs. Mia passed hers to him and he frowned, "You don't like it?"
"I don't dig it," Mia smiled, "You have it."
"Come on, you barely ate," Carter wiped his mouth with a napkin and looked at her. "Look, your cheekbones are protruding. You lost weight."
"Don't be dramatic. I just don't feel like eating that," Mia pointed out. "I'll look around and see if there's anything I want at the buffet."
"Okay," Carter nodded. He watched as she left, and then he took a quick break from eating just to wait for her. While he was checking his phone, someone stopped by at the side of the table. He lifted his gaze and cocked his brows as he realized it was Camille, whom he met a few months ago.
"You're that thrift shop guy, right?" Camille took off her sunglasses, smiling to greet him.
"Yes," Carter shook her hand, "What are the odds that we meet here? I haven't bumped into you at that small, boring town since the last time we met."
Camille scoffed as she rolled her eyes, "I guess the town isn't as small as I thought." She glanced at the table and smiled, "You must be here with someone."
"Oh, I'm here with my fiancée," Carter looked at the buffet area and lost Mia. He turned to look at Camille again and chuckled, "She's at the bathroom right now."
"I see..." Camille hummed, "I guess she's a local here?"
"She's actually from your town," Carter gasped, "I did ask her about you, but she said she's not good with remembering names."
"Really? Huh... What's her name? We probably went to school together if she's from my town, unless she moved away at such a young age."
"And you must know everyone to be confident about that."
"My dad's the town Mayor. I have to at least know people's names even if I don't remember their faces."
