We had drove at least fifteen miles before I began to doze off at the wheel. At first I thought it was my imagination that the radio crackled to life but then I heard Ironwood's voice at then I was shot awake. Bishop grabbed the receiver and said something inaudible for me at the time.
"Boss he's asking for you," he said handing the receiver to me. I took it and listened.
"Rook are you responding over," the radio boomed. I could tell something was off but his voice was also... robotic in a way.
"This is Rook responding over," I said into the receiver.
"Report to the warehouse district for further orders," he replied. I knew that the White Fang have been tapping into our outdated radio equipment after the destruction of the Communications hub in Vale but seeing as how we have to trust this is the truth I reluctantly responded.
"... Understood sir do you have the confirmation code," I asked. There was a long pause on the other end. I swore I could hear the sound of a pencil writing on paper on the other end meaning that they haven't released the receiver button obviously showing their inexperience in the antiquated equipment. "Bishop shut off the radio." Bishop nodded and shut the radio off and he cautiously scanned the city's high rise.
"Nothing on my end," Pawn said. "I mean we're in Mistral what are the odds of a firefight occurring here."
"That's what we said about Vale remember," I sighed. "Just watch out there could be something." I noticed that people were avoiding our vehicle but I just barely saw a red dot on my chest as I turned the corner. Then there was a loud boom and well the next moment I woke up and I saw that the engine was on fire and there were insurgent White Fang forces surrounding the wreck. I grabbed my handgun and fired at the approaching attackers causing them to fall back into cover. I saw that Bishop was already out as well as the others so I forced my door open and crawled out with my rifle and handgun. I got up and felt something trickled down the side of my face and I checked it and it was my blood. I then felt a sharp pain in my chest as I realized that the red laser was from a novice sharpshooter. I took cover behind the wreck of the Humvee thinking I was left behind. I grabbed my short wave radio which had limited range and switched the frequencies around.
"Boss are you there respond over," Pawn said over the radio.
"This is Rook yeah I'm here where's the rally point over," I asked. I held my handgun in hand as I fired shots at the White Fang Grunts.
"Meet us by the mall there will be cops so hurry it up we have the package already," Pawn radioed. I turned my radio off and began to limp my way over returning fire at the approaching White Fang Grunts. I turned the corner and was tackled by a teenager about my age. He was wearing Grey and Black suit and his boots... I recognized him as Mercury Black. I lost grip of my handgun and headbutted him whilst I unsheathed my katana/ Daito. My blade was augmented to become a high frequency blade as well as let me run my own aura down its blade length to further damage my opponent. He staggered back and I looked around me and realized I was surrounded by a large crowd of White Fang grunts. I looked around and saw that they were wielding clubs of sorts as well as swords. Two of them rushed me from behind only to be stopped with a quick slash at their throats from my blade. I watched them as they fell choking on their own blood, I never enjoy taking lives to be honest but it's a necessary sin nonetheless. I felt a shock of pain as I heard a gunshot from behind and saw them all rush at me. I then saw Knight and his M60 tear through most of the horde causing them to scatter.
"Boss you okay," Knight yelled running over. I nodded and sheathed my sword.
"The others they okay," I asked.
"Yeah cops set up a defensive barrier around this part of town," Knight said. He helped me up and I had my handgun at the ready.
"Might want to hurry they'll be back soon," I said. He nodded and started to help me limp to safety. I saw Annie and waved over at her as Knight helped me onto a medical cot. She ran over and slapped me causing me to be wide eyed.
"Don't ever do that again got it," she said.
"Do what survive an IED explosion, get shot at, take two bullets or kill with my blade mercilessly," I asked. She looked like she was about to burst so I shut up and waited for a doctor to escort her out. "Damn must've been a little to dense." I mentally sighed and allowed the anesthetic knock me out. Then again it's funny to think that she even likes a guy like me huh.
