Clowns hid scary faces under scary makeup,
So did people under their cheerless smiles.
No fingers to grip, when they came closer.
I was lost in a carnival full of dark dreams.Round and round in the colourful carousel
I travelled the world on my plastic horse
Mommy's light laughter synced with mine
She said candy girls deserved candy canesThe merry-go-round was no longer merry
For sinister screams drowned my giggles
Messy pigtails swishing, I looked around.
My mommy was nowhere to be seen!Lips stained by cotton candies screamed
And no silly red balloons enthralled me
The maze of mirrors lied about my tears
I was lost in a dark carnival full of liarsTwenty ride tickets stayed in my pockets
Wish I had a ticket to my mother's heart
Handles dug into my skin as the ride began
High up, I searched for her pink clad figureFerris wheel stopped when clock struck ten
Candied apples had already gone out of stock
Though people threw eggs, the circus laughed
Mom, am I really a freak show like them?Darkness settled when I saw her at the exit
The gates barred me from her retreating self
Sickly sweet candy vomit flooded my mouth
I was abandoned in a carnival of fabrications.
