Somewhere in the back of my head

When I woke up in the morning I was excited and sad. Excited, because I got to spend another day with Shawn, but sad, because I knew it would be the last day for a while. I didn't know how to even survive such a long time without him. I told myself "Forget this and enjoy the time, that's left!" and I tried really hard, but in the back of my head the thought was still buzzing around. Getting ready for later helped to destruct me a little bit and when the doorbell rang, my whole body was so full of happiness, that I almost forgot about it. Almost.

"Hey honey. I have a little surprise for you.", he said before giving me a kiss to welcome me. "What is it?", I wanted to know chuckling. "That's the whole point of a surprise!", Shawn laughed. He took my hand and we walked down the street. He had a backpack with him and I was wondering, what was in it. But he didn't want to tell me anything about it, so my level excitement increased even more.

After he guided me through several streets and crossroads we came to a beautiful park located in the outskirts of the city. He asked me to to sit down on one of the tree stumps and close my eyes until he would allow me to open them again. "No cheating!", he said with a playfully strict tone in is voice. "Alright.", I laughed. Not knowing what to expect and a little nervous I did what he had told me. I couldn't erase the big smile off my face while waiting for a sign from him. A few minutes later I felt his hand on my cheek and his lips giving me a soft peck on my forehead. "You can open your eyes now, honey.", he said and I did exaclty that. And what I saw in front of me took my breath away. Shawn had prepared a picnic for us, consisting of a cute blanket layed down in the grass, a variousity of food and drinks and a bouquet of flowers in the middle. "Wow, this is so beautiful! Thank you!" was what I told him while my heart was melting and full of happiness and joy. He reponded: "You are very welcome. Just for you, sweetheart." I couldn't help but falling in love with this boy more and more every second of my day. He was just so perfect. I jumped into his arms and gave him a kiss trying to express how thankful I was. Not only for this picnic, but for him.

We then sat down and enjoyed the the food, he had brought. "No tomatoes on the sandwiches, huh?", I joked around. "Ugh, stop it!", he giggled and playfully pushed me away from him, "But there are some chocolate chip muffins somewhere." "Well, I guess I gotta be fine with those.", I laughed. Having finished eating we layed down on the blanket, hand in hand starring at the sky. The planes flying above us reminded me of the fact, that Shawn would have to go back home soon and even though I tried to hold back my emotions a small tear came out of the corner of my eye. I quickly wiped it away hoping he hadn't noticed it, but he turned over to me and asked me with a sad expression on is face: " Why are you crying?" "Because you have to leave soon." "Try to forget about that, honey. I love you and I promise you, that won't ever change. Not even distance can take this from us." And although I still felt a little bit sad, he managed to put a smile on my face.

The rest of the day we walked around the park holding hands and talking about everything that was on our minds. Shawn then bought hotdogs for us at a booth near the park. We sat down on a bench and enjoyed the last few hours together before he would have to go.
