That's Emma, Alex's 14 year old sister, who has cancer. She has not been home in three months. If you want to find out more, continue to read.
Dylan POV
I was putting groceries away when Alex tapped the kitchen counter in order to get my attention. I turn around to see what she was going to sign.'I need to tell you something.'
"Don't you mean sign?" She rolls her eyes
'This is serious.' I look into her eyes, and she looks back at mine, and I see she is serious.
"Ya what's up?"
'Ok so I don't know how to tell you this. So I'm just going to say it. I have a sister, she is fourteen and she is moving in.' My eyes widen.
"That's great...but." I know there is a but, there always is.
'She has cancer, and she is being released from the hospital this Sunday.' I nod, not knowing what to say.
"What can I do to help?" She gives a small smile and she hands me a book.
'This has everything you need to know in case something happens and I'm not home. It also talks about her medication and what it can do, that way you aren't offended by her sudden mood swings and all.'
"Okay...but what's her name?" I chuckle which caused her to laugh.
'Oh sorry, not good with the whole feelings and truth thing. Her name is Emma.' I nod.
"Wait she is coming Sunday? That's in two days! We have to get her room set up!" Her eyes widened and she smiled, giving me a side hug while shaking her head about how I'm getting all worked up even though I don't know her, but if she is anything like Alex, I'm sure I will like her.
. . .
It's Sunday and Alex already went to go get Emma. I add the last finishing touch to her room and smile at my work.
Me and Alex hope she likes it because her favorite color is yellow, and we can't do too much because of limited space and we still need room for any hospital stuff she has to bring home. I go back into the living room to watch tv to kill time. Five minutes of scrolling through stations and I find nothing. I instantly sat up when I heard the door unlock. All sorts of thoughts running through my head. I know I shouldn't be nervous but I am. She is just a fourteen year old kid, but what if... what if she doesn't like me so Alex kicks me out. Then what will I do? If I don't have a house to live in then I can't get a job because you have to have an address to gets job, and without a job I can't get a house. My thoughts were caught off when the door opens and Alex and Emma walk in. I didn't see Alex this morning because she left early.
Alex's outfit:
My eyes wonder to Emma. She didn't look like Alex at all. Alex was paler, Emma was shorting and had blue eyes like her dad, but they were more of a pleasant happy blue, unlike the cloudy blue of her dad. I could barely tell that they were sisters.
Emma's outfit:
Emma was very skinny, but some how she made it look like Alex was the sick one. Due to Alex being paler and skinnier. Then again Alex never eats much and Emma probably gets a lot of good food at the hospital.
"Hi, you must be Emma, I'm Dylan." I stick out my hand for her to shake and she lightly does so. She didn't seem like she was related to Alex at all. She seemed happy, gentle and someone who loved the world. I picked up her duffle bag that was on the floor.
"If you want to I can show you to your room, so you can settle." She nodded as she followed me to her room. Her face lit up when she saw the yellow walls.
I left the room and went back into the kitchen to talk to Alex.
"She seems nice."
'She is.'
"Nothing like you though. Do you guys have anything in common?"
'Blood.' I laugh at her answer and she does her smile that fades as soon as it came.
"Okay I'm unpacked!" Emma said from behind us. We turned around quickly and saw her standing there.
"And we do too have stuff in common. Like besides blood, we both like strawberry ice cream."
'No, I'm allergic to strawberries.' Alex signed.
"Okay well we both like burgers!"
'I'm a vegetarian.'
"You are?"
'Yes, for three months.'
"Okay we we both like...photography."
'Since when do you like photography?'
"Since ever."
'Oh, well in that case we do have that in common.' She signed to me and I nodded.
"Wow so other then that you guys are polar opposites. Maybe you guys aren't even related." And we all laugh, well Alex kind of just smiled.
