FRESHMAN YEAR

Tyler walked into the school building with his head down. It was his first day of freshman year and he wasn't sure if he was ready for it. Tyler walked to his locker, smiling as his friend approached him. Brendon placed his elbow on Tyler's shoulder, "hey, Ty guy."

Tyler put his books in the locker, "hey, Bren. Have you seen Pete?"

Brendon shook his head, "no, not yet. Probably off somewhere hitting on some girls."

Tyler chuckled and closed his locker, "classic Pete."

The two began walking towards class. Brendon nudged Tyler's shoulder, "so, did you hook up with anyone over the summer?"

Tyler shook his head, "nope."

Brendon scoffed, "come on, dude. I heard Jenna Black has it pretty hard for you."

Tyler rolled his eyes, "so I've heard."

Brendon groaned, "Ty! Jenna is the hottest girl in our grade. Even sophomores check her out. You can't tell me you don't have the slightest attraction to her."

Tyler shook his head, "I don't, sorry, Bren."

Brendon raised an eyebrow, "what, are you gay or something?"

Tyler's face scrunched up, "no. Why would you even think that?"

Brendon chuckled, "dude, I'm just kidding."

Tyler blushed, "I knew that."

The two fell into a silence, Tyler finding it quite awkward. Tyler cleared his throat and Brendon spoke up again, "come on, at least name one good thing about Jenna."

Tyler glanced around the hallway with a dumbfounded look. "uh, I guess she's got a nice ass," Tyler lied through his teeth, cringing at his words.

Brendon slapped Tyler's back, "that's more like it." The two entered the classroom, smiling politely when the teacher greeted them. Tyler scanned the room, noting how much everyone had changed. Brendon let out a low whistle and Tyler followed his gaze. Brendon let out a laugh, "since when did Dun have muscles."

Tyler's eyes widened as his eyes landed on the familiar yet unfamiliar boy. Josh Dun had at least grown a few inches, because last time Tyler checked, he was taller than the now redhead. He was more fit and he no longer had his blocky glasses. Josh caught Tyler's stare and smiled at him. Tyler smiled back before turning back to Brendon.

Brendon snorted, "talk about glow up. Joshua Dun went from nerd to jock."

Tyler rolled his eyes, keeping himself from glancing back at josh. Brendon nearly choked on air and Tyler followed his gaze again. Tyler looked to see the one and only Debby Ryan walking in. Brendon's eyes widened, "damn, Debby grew up."

Tyler eyed her quickly, not really finding any interest. Tyler watched as she sat next to josh and the two instantly picked up conversation. The person sitting behind Tyler, who he knew as Patrick, whispered to him, "I heard Debby and Josh are a thing now. It happened over summer and everyone's going crazy about it."

Tyler nodded and looked back at the two. You could easily tell Debby was flirting with him. Brendon scoffed, "Jesus, I'm not sure if Debby is the hottest or Jenna."

Tyler shrugged, "does it really matter?"

Brendon nodded, "uh, yes. It's called a status, Tyler. You see, guys like you and me are on the higher status."

Tyler's eyebrows furrowed, "what the hell does that mean?"

Brendon rolled his eyes, "were athletic, good looking, social. People look up to us. I have a feeling josh will be joining our group. Anyway, you gotta know where you are on the status. You don't want to be friends with someone too low in status."

Tyler scoffed, "that's stupid, who even came up with that?"

Brendon shrugged, "I don't know, man, it's always been that way. Have you never noticed?"

Tyler shook his head, "no."

Brendon shook his head and chuckled, "dude, Tyler, you're one of the most popular kids in the grade. In middle school you were the best basketball player. How can you not notice?"

Tyler shrugged and looked back at josh and Debby. Debby was much closer to him, running her hand down Josh's arm. Tyler didn't know why, but the idea of a girl touching him that way made him sick.

Was that normal?

Whoop! New book!! I'm ready for this.

Guys, I started up cross county again this week and the first day back we ran four fricking miles. FOUR. My legs are in pain.

ALSO. I'm not ready for school. The only thing I like about the end of summer is back to school clothes shopping. Only cos I love shopping and I'm obsessed with fashion. Whoops.

Anyyyway, hope you enjoyed the first chapter!!! Have a nice day/night!!! Byeeee.
