A/N: Of course the first chapter is about a cat... I actually took that picture today at my work! So I based the cat off of him cx that's also my hair lmao, he was playing in it

"He's not going to let you keep it." Raven chuckled as we walked home. I scoffed, my focus going back to the kitten in my arms.

"Well, tough. I'll hide it if I have to." I said, my hand stroking the animals little head.

"Although, he's totally in love with you. So, who knows? He probably will let you keep-uh...." Raven trailed off, her face scrunching up in thought.

"I named it Pine." I huffed, smiling when the feline gave a small meow. I then froze in my steps, my brain replaying what Raven had said. "Wait a minute."

"What's wrong?" Raven asked, her heels making a skidding noise on the pavement.

"Charles is not in love with me." I informed, continuing in my steps.

I didn't have to be a telepath to know Raven had just rolled her eyes. "Yeah, okay." She said, her voice going deeper in mock acceptance before she caught back up with me.

It was my turn to roll my eyes, handing her the now sleeping kitten so I could get the keys to the flat. "If he was, he wouldn't flirt with every floozie he saw." I explained, turning the knob and opening the door.

"Who flirts with every floozie he sees?" The voice of Charles asked from the couch. My brain went blank while I awkwardly shuffled so I was blocking the kitten from his view.

Raven sighed. "Well, y-"

I was quick to elbow her hard enough to inform her to keep quiet. "Joshua." I lied, mentally crossing my fingers that he wouldn't choose this moment to look through my head.

Charles rolled his eyes, his hand patting the seat next to him, tossing his papers onto the coffee table. When I hesitated, he looked at me with hurt in his eyes. Whether it was real or not, I'll never know. "Beth, I'm not going to bite you."

I looked to Raven, my eyes darting towards my room so she'd hide our little feline friend. She nodded, carefully placing the cat in her jacket. "Alright." I said, sitting in the spot next to him.

"Raven, where are you going?" He asked when he noticed her hurrying out of the room.

"I have to use the bathroom." She said quickly.

Charles raised a brow, but nodded in acknowledgment. Raven smiled before practically sprinting into our shared room.

I ran my tongue against the back of my teeth, my hands playing with the hem of my shirt. "So?"

Charles turned back to me, his lips forming a frown. "Are you okay?"

I raised a brow, my lips pursing. "Yes, why?"

"Well, you just told me that your boyfriend is flirting with other women so..." He paused, his eyes looking over my face. "I just wanted to make sure you were okay." He finished, his tone going sour at the mention of Josh.

"I'm fine, Charles." I said, my heart aching at how much he had cared about my feelings. "Thank you, though."

I got up, stepping over his legs and heading towards my room.

"What's it's name?" Charles asked, his head still looking to where I was sitting.

"Pardon?"

"The cat. What'd you name her?" He pressed, turning to face me with a smile on his face.

I inwardly groaned, throwing my head back. "Pine..."

Charles chuckled. "We'll get a collar tomorrow."

"I told you!" Raven shouted from our shared bedroom.

I breathed out a laugh, smiling sweetly at the man in front of me. "Thanks." I said before continuing on my way, slipping into the bedroom.

Little did I know, Charles watched me, his smile falling a bit.
