She saw the note the next day when she was walking with Mary and Esther. 

"Oh my gosh, he was so cute, Ruthie!"

"Yeah, uh huh." 

She bent down to pick it up, surprised at how wet they were from the dew. She then realised that he must've left them for her the day before. 

The envelope had her name on it in a scrawly writing that she didn't recognise but she knew it belonged to Lucas.

Thanks for the summer. I had fun killing time with you. See you next year?
