So it's been a while, old pal
~~~~~~
It was nearly eleven at night, around the time you would usually go to sleep. You were just finishing your nightly routine in the bathroom when you heard a loud knock at your bedroom door. Placing your toothbrush back in it's holder, you wiped off your face and stepped out of the bathroom. The knocking grew impatient as you sleepily crossed your room, prompting you to believe it was Matthias. Throwing open the door, you were met with a goofy grin.
"What do you want? I'm about to go to bed," you yawned.
He took a step inside, "I know, I know, but I have something exciting to show you. You may want to sit down for this."
Shaking your head, you took a seat on the edge of your bed. He followed suit and sat beside you, reaching inside his coat and pulling out two slips of paper. He gave them to you, allowing you to look them over. They had your names on them, a time, and... a gate number? You glanced at the top right corner at the destination; (c/n), America.
"Matthias, what is this about?" you asked, terrified that it was a joke.
"I'm taking you back to visit your adoptive family tomorrow. It's been nearly four months since you've seen them, they probably miss you a lot. It's only going to be for a weekend, I hope that's enough time-"
Before he could finish his sentence you threw your arms around his neck, trapping him in a tight hug. You nuzzled his shoulder, your voice muffled in the fabric of his shirt, "Thank you! Thank you so much! You don't know how much this means to me, Dan."
He chuckled, rubbing your back, "I have an idea. Now you should start getting packed, the flight leaves at ten tomorrow, so we'll have to be out of here by eight."
You pulled away, wiping a stray tear that had managed to fall from your eye, "You're right, I'll start before I go to bed. Really, thank you so much Matthias. You really are the coolest big brother ever."
His face lit up in a huge smile, "I told you I was!"
"Yeah, yeah. Well anyways, I'm going to start packing."
"Oh right, I'll leave you to that," he said, standing and making his way to the door. He suddenly stopped in the doorframe, looking back towards you, "am I really the coolest big brother ever?"
"Yes, you are."
"Yes! I need to tell this to Nor!"
You woke up the next morning before your alarm even went off. You nearly fell off your bed when you looked at the clock, it was five in the morning, meaning you had only gotten three hours of sleep. The excitement from the thought of visiting your family kept you awake, though you tried everything to fall back asleep. You even went as far as to jog through the halls to tire yourself out, but when your head hit the pillow all you could do was blankly stare at the wall. In the end you gave in and pulled yourself up, heading for the shower to get ready for the day. At least you would be able to get some sleep on the long plane ride.
While you were getting undressed you glanced at your reflection in the mirror. Letting out a yelp, you dropped the dirty pajama pants you were holding. Your eyes looked dull with dark circles that could rival a raccoon, and your skin was pale, almost sickly. Those missed hours of sleep really did their toll on you. Scrunching up your nose in distaste, you continued undressing and hoped the warm water would help out.
Though you still looked just as miserable once you got out of the shower, it did help you feel much more energized (though you would still probably down a large cup of coffee if given the chance). Pulling your robe from its hook, you slid the fuzzy fabric over your shoulders and secured it around your waist before heading back into your bedroom to search for something to wear.
Going straight to your dresser, you didn't notice the figure sitting on your bed. It was only when they cleared their throat did you realize you weren't alone. Widening your eyes, you turned to see Emil, his cheeks a bright red as he held one of your fashion magazines in his hand, though he wasn't looking at it at all. They were trained on your robe, just as wide as yours. He let out an awkward cough, "Are you wearing any clothes under that?"
"Why are you in my room!?" you yelled, throwing the nearest article of clothing at his face.
"I just wanted to hang out until you had to leave, idiot! I didn't know you would be practically naked!" he explained as he stood, backing towards the door, refusing to make eye contact. "Just get dressed already, I'll be in the kitchen."
Slamming the door behind him, you could practically hear his footsteps as he ran down the stairs. You collapsed to the ground, hiding your face in your hands as your mind ran wild with insecurity. Great, now you would have to change your name and move to a different country. Well, you were already going to America so that would be covered. Wait, you thought, this is ridiculous. Stop overreacting, (y/n).
Shaking your head, you couldn't help but laugh at the whole situation. Feliks would no doubt have a ball once you told him, and you know for sure Toris would go into protective dad mode™. Letting out a sigh, you picked yourself up and continued to look for an outfit to wear. It took a bit of indecision between comfortable and fashionable, but ultimately you decided you wanted to be comfy. Settling for a simple pair of sweatpants and baggy tee, you put your hair up into a damp bun and headed to Emil downstairs.
He was in the kitchen like he said, waiting at the counter with a cup of coffee in his hand, your favorite mug sitting beside him. His cheeks flushed once he spotted you, though he didn't look away. Instead he grabbed your mug, making his way over to you.
"I'm sorry for... you know..." he trailed off, offering the cup to you, "Anyways, I made you some coffee as a peace offering, so please don't murder me."
You took it with a grin, "Hm, I'll think about it."
He let out a small chuckle, taking a seat at the table. You hopped up on the counter, kicking your feet as you took a sip. It was made just as you liked it, how did he know?
"So, what are you doing up so early?" you asked, raising an eyebrow, "I mean, I highly doubt you wake up this early on a daily basis."
"Maybe I just really love waking up at the crack of dawn. It makes me feel more in touch with nature," he said.
You snorted, "Emil, I've seen you sleep in until dinner, don't lie to me."
"Fine, I couldn't sleep. When I heard your shower going I figured that I'd just hang out with you until you left and then try sleeping after, but then that happened."
"What, did you figure my personality would just bore you to sleep?" you joked, though behind the humor you couldn't help but think of how sweet he was. Even when he tried to hide it, he still acted irresistibly cute.
"Exactly. So, are you all packed?"
Sliding off the counter, you put your empty mug in the sink, "Yeah, pretty much. I just need to pack my toiletries and I'll be all set."
He stood as well, finishing the rest of his coffee, "I'll help you then."
In the end, Emil was the only one up early enough to see Matthias and you off. Not that you minded, though. He didn't care much for Matthias, simply waving him goodbye as he exited the house with his suitcase in tow, but he stopped you before you could follow. You turned, seeing as he extended his arms to you, shyly staring at the ground.
"Emil, finally showing affection to your best friend?" you teased, stepping forward and wrapping your arms around his neck, giving him a swift hug.
He patted you on the back, "I hope the plane crashes."
"Woah, I do too, that's crazy. We're so in sync," you laughed, pulling away and grabbing onto your suitcase, "I'll see you later if that plan fails. Bye loser."
"Text me if you land, I'll need to tell my hitman."
"I will."
With a chuckle you pulled your suitcase out to the cab, letting the driver place it in the trunk as you slid into the backseat next to Matthias. He turned to you with a grin, placing his arm around your shoulder, "Soon you'll be back to where you're from, (y/n). You should show me around once we get there."
"I will. I've made so many memories there, I'm excited to tell you about them."
