Hamid

I was scrolling through my messages in phone when I came across Razia's last text.

Flashback

I was in a meeting when a notification popped up on my phone. It was Razia' s message.
I didn't read it as I was busy with the meeting.

Later finishing with the meeting, I checked her text,

On the way to Mysore.
Travelling in bus M1.
You know I can't stand without helping others ;)

I didn't get what she meant.
I know that she is the person who can do anything to help others, even if she doesn't know that person.

I called her to ask about her text but her phone was not reachable.

I tried a lot but couldn't reach her.
I was panicking.

Just when I received a call from an unknown number.

"Hello?" I asked

"Am I talking to Mr.Hamid?" A man asked.

"Yes? It's Hamid." I replied, hesitantly.

" I'm calling from The City Hospital. Mrs Razia is your wife, right?" He asked

"Yes she's my wife. What happened?" I asked worriedly.

"Am sorry to say this Mr, Hamid. Your wife had got into bus accident. She is no more."

"W..wh.at.?" I lost my balance. The world seemed to be spinning around me.

How can they just say it like that. It's not true. It can't be.

"T..This..ca.nt..be?"

"I feel sorry for you Sir. But no one survived." He sighed.

The phone dropped from my hand. I was shocked.

My Razia. I lost her.

End of flashback

I didn't know why she changed her bus. She texted me of helping someone. I don't know what happened that day.

******

Saif wasn't talking with me. He was angry cause I told everything to his teacher.
I guess I did right telling her. Cause now she will stop asking him questions about being low and poor in his studies. And it was kind of her to care about Saif. I mean there are very few teachers who pay attention to every child in their class. Saif is lucky to have teacher like her. Maybe I can seek help from her. Maybe she will help me bring Saif back to normal. I can't see my boy in this state anymore. I think I should visit her tomorrow and talk about it.

And about Saif, I took him to his favourite ice cream parlour on the way while returning from Bilal and Sidra's Walima. Ice cream was the only option to make up for my sorry. Sometimes you should apologise to your kids to see a smile on their face even if it isn't your mistake. Saif was happy but his smile didn't last longer. He forgave me but insisted that he won't go to school for few days.
I should do something about it.

*******

Next day, I went to Saif's school.

"Yes?" A lady asked.

"Um..I'm Saif's dad, he is studying in VI grade. I wanted to meet Miss Naureen." I said.

"Yeah. Sure Go straight and turn left, the first door is staff room." She gave directions.

"Okay ,Thank you" I smiled politely.

I knocked on the door. And slightly pushed it open.

"Assalamu alikum" I greeted.

She stood up as she saw me.
She was a bit shocked to see me.  I bet she didn't expect me here.

"Wa..alaikum..assalam" she replied, stuttering.

"Oh..have a seat please" she said pointing towards the chair.

We took our seats.

"How is Saif. Is he improving?" She asked

"Um...No. Actually, I'm here...cause I wanted a favour from you."

"Um..yeah. How can I help you?" She asked

"I'm worried about Saif. I want him to be back to his normal self. And may be you can pay more attention to him, make him participate in school activities, like sports and other extra curricular activities that he's interested in.. Maybe this can shift his mood." I suggested.

"Um..sure. Being a teacher, I can do this for my students" she smiled weakly.

"Jazakallah khair" I thanked her.

"Wa iyyakum" she replied fidgeting with her scarf.

I glanced at her and left the room, heading off to office, thinking about what fate might bring next. If I'll ever be able to see my kid smile like before.
