Be nice about it and don't say any of the following:
I don't think we're gonna work out
I don't wanna be friends
Or anything that might set a bad vibe
Try to just be civil or just nice to them, you don't have to treat them as you would a good or best friend. If they say hi to you at school or work just say hi back and it won't come across as rude. If it doesn't work, just try to ignore them because engaging in the relationship that you don't want to be part of will make you resentful and angry towards
them, so it's no good for you!
