It was easy to be caught sneaking out of your room around here. It wasn't a normal hospital. Plus, seceurity guards were all over the place. It was more of a prison than a place of help. Though, it was exciting and pulse racing hiding behind corners and dodging into different rooms. One room we came upon was occupied and neither of us noticed it until we heard someone clear their throat behind us. I turned, biting my bottom lip, sure we were caught. The bed held a young girl, about my age and very much vampire, and around her sat obviously her family. An older gentleman had his eyes on us, a devilish smile poking at his lips. His green eyes went from Reid down to me.
"May I help you?" He asked in an amused sort of tone.
"We...were just..." Reid started. The man held up his hand and turned to his wife, a blonde female sitting to his right.
"What shall we do with the intruders, dear?" He asked her. She flashed her bright, blue eyes at me then glanced down at my stomach. Her own smile brightened the room.
"What's your name, sweetheart?" She asked me.
"A-Amabell," I said. The young girl in the bed turned to the woman and whispered something. I heard Reid chuckle at my side. "I'm sorry we didn't knock. It's just I haven't been out of this place since I've been here."
"You're human," the man said, more of a statement than a question. I nodded. His eyes ventured down to my stomach then back to his wife. She smiled at him and he turned back to us. "If you take the stairs, exit on the second floor. The guards are barely ever down there. If they are, there's tons of empty storage rooms you can slip into." I smiled at the man and nodded.
"Thank you," Reid answered. Before slipping from the room, I caught eyes with the young girl in bed. Her blonde hair, much like her mother's, was thinning and her skin was unusually pale but upon her face she wore the biggest smile.
The halls were clear to run and my hand was soon in Reid's again. As he pulled me down the bright halls, I couldn't take me eyes off that girl's room. "I thought vampires didn't get sick," I said.
"Vampire's have their own diseases. Ones humans can't get. It's like cancer but worse," He explained. I guess that would explain the whole hospital. I didn't think about it until I seen the sick girl. And it soon passed my mind when we were on the stairs and jumping steps. I stopped every now and then when a sharp pain shot through my hip and Reid was by my side each time. Finally, we came to the second floor. I hid behind Reid as he peeked through the small window, out into the hallway. Slowly, he opened the door and stepped out. After a few moments, I did the same, looking around the new part of the hospital. It was darker down here. The walls weren't holding medicine cabinets or pictures of animals. They were bare white and boring.
With my hand once more in Reid's, he pulled me down the hall slowly, turning every which way to make sure no one was around. A few times, he would flash a cocky smile over his shoulder at me, feeling my excitement rise the closer we got to freedom. I could only silently laugh and trail behind him."Hey!" I jumped to a sudden voice and twirled around. A doctor, wearing an all white suit, stood there staring at us. His eyes were black and his skin seemed to be wet, shining against the dull lights of the hall.
"What are you doing down here?" He barked as he made his way to us. Reid pushed me behind him and stood his ground. This doctor didn't look pleasant. "Answer me, trespassers!"
Reid studied the guy for a long time before saying a word. "We were just leaving. We come to visit a friend and got lost." The man's eyes dropped to me. They were black as night. His facial expression had me burying my face in Reid's back.
"She looks sick. You lie!"
Reid grabbed a hold of my arm hard and pulled me in front of the man. I let out a little squeal and closed my eyes. "She's human. Why would they keep a human here?"
The man didn't look convinced, but he did seem to believe that it wasn't possible for a human to stay here. He growled under his breath and pushed passed us. "Follow me," he said.
Reid glanced down at me, releasing his grip slightly on my arm, and pulling me beside him. He leaned down to kiss the top of my head and whisper, "Sorry", as he rubbed the finger print welts on my wrist.
"You've ventured far from the exit. Why'd you say you were here again?" The man said over his shoulder. He walked fast. Leaving us far behind him. Reid didn't make any hurry to catch up or even ask to slow down.
"Visiting a friend," Reid answered.
"Which block?" Reid paused in between each question, narrowing his eyes at the back of the doctor.
"C. The fifth floor. Her name is Mikayla." I shot my head up at him. Mikayla was the name on the sick girl's door we had slipped into before. He didn't bother looking down at me. I noticed the doctor in front of us had stopped for a brief second, turning his head slightly around at us. Reid stopped as well, stopping me at his side. Fear struck me and all I wanted to do was get back to my room before something bad happens. I don't think I could go through any more fights or wars for my life time. Soon, the doctor was walking again. Reid seemed to slow his pace and once the man was around a corner, I was pulled from the hallway and into a very dark room.
"What's going on?!" I whispered loud, thinking we were being followed or something. I was pressed against Reid and the only light came from a small window at the end of the little room we were in. The setting sun was enough for me to see his face, and he was smiling down at me. I raised an eyebrow. "What are you doing? He was taking us out of here!"
He shook his head, still holding onto his smile, and looped our fingers together. "It was much more fun sneaking out." We stood like this for a few minutes in complete silence. I tried to see through him. To see what he was up to. But, a smile wiped across my face and I had to agree; sneaking around like we were a couple spies was much more fun than being escorted out. He turned his head to search the room. It was filled with stuff I could barely make out through the dark.
"How are we getting out of here? He's sure to be just outside," I said. He stood there for another minute before dragging me towards the window and looking out. Down below us, was a small garden at the back of the building. The town was on the other side, where all the people were. I didn't understand what he had planned until he thrust open the small window and leaned out of it. My eyes grew wide and I took a step back. "No! No way in hell am I jumping! I'm pregnant!"
He turned back to me, with his smile still branded on his face, and held his hand out. I crossed my arms in front of my chest and shook my head. "No way!"
He sighed, cocking his head to the right, and jumped towards me. I screamed, but it was cut short as the cold air smacked me in the back. I was clung to Reid, my legs wrapped around his torso and my arms locked around his neck. My face was buried in his neck, my eyes closed shut tight. I didn't realise we were on the ground until I felt him chuckle. I picked my face up, blinked away the black dots in front of my eyes, and looked around. Fresh air filled my lungs. The smell of flowers was around us and I took it in deeply. I could hear the cars on the other side of the hospital zooming by, the smell of gas mixing in with the flowers. I dropped my bare feet to the ground, feeling the soft grass between my toes. It was like I was feeling all this for the very first time.
I turned to Reid, who was watching me carefully. He showed me a warm smile when our eyes met and I returned it. Along with a punch in the chest that made him jump backwards. "What was that for?!" He asked, rubbing the spot I had hit.
"Next time, warn me before you jump from a two story window!" I growled. He laughed. I couldn't help but join in. For the first time in so long, even without Jude here, I was happy and free. As much as I missed Jude...as much as I craved Jude, today, I could say was the best day I've had in a long time.
We caught eyes once more and I didn't let go of it.
Reid had something planned, and whatever it was, I was going to enjoy it.
