Derek's screams echoed off the walls. Cody cringed, her stomach twisting as she felt his pain under her skin.
"What are you do doing to him?" asked Allison. "Is it going to kill him?" Her voice shook with fear.
Kate chuckled. "Oh come on, kiddo. Don't get all ethical on me now."
Kate sighed, turning away from Derek to look at Cody. "I know it's hard for you right now, but you need to learn."
Cody turned away, unable to look at Kate, trying to stem the flow of Derek's pain that shook her bones. She heard his heart hammering in her ears, could feel the electrical currents run through his veins.
"What is he?" Allison asked.
Kate was laughing again. "Shape-shifter, lycan, werewolf. To me he's just another dumb animal." She turned up the volts and Derek shouted as the lights flickered. Cody let out a cry that went ignored. "Come here, both of you," Kate commanded.
She went up to Derek, pulling his lip up so they had a clear view of his fangs. "See these right here? These canines, or fangs. Made for the tearing of flesh, not something you find on cute little leaf eaters, huh?" She looked between her two nieces. "I know you already know all this, Codester, so wipe that terrified look off your face."
"Is this all a joke to you?" Cody asked angrily, holding back tears. "You're torturing him."
"Sweetie," Kate cooed. "There are werewolves running around in the world. Everything is a joke to me. How else do you think I stay sane?"
"Well, you could try leaving them alone!" Cody snapped.
Kate grinned. "Can't do that, honey. They're much too dangerous."
"He hasn't done anything!" Cody could feel her anger rising, making her hands shake. The next thing to shake would be the walls if she didn't control herself.
"How do you know that?" Allison demanded. "How do you know him?"
"Wow," said Kate. "I can't believe you haven't told her."
Allison looked at her, her expression angry.
"Told me what?" The two looked at Cody, who glanced away, shaking her head.
