A heart can be fixed, they slowly stitch themselves back together until they are whole again. Hearts that have been broken may be scarred and shy, but will eventually still ease their way back into love and find themselves stronger than before.
A broken soul is forever. When a soul shatters into countless minuscule pieces, they are lost and ground smaller under he heavy soles of others careless words and actions. Even as they can be slowly reassembled into something vaguely resembling what they used to be, whatever's left is incomplete. Something has been lost, never to return. That loss changes people, creating a chronic pain and feeling of incompleteness that forever lingers.
To break a soul is to break a person, and Rose feels like she's been torn in two.
Fun fact: I already kinda wrote the firstish chapter of this book (Hello Rose)
