Translation: "Petőfi was poor, beause he spent too much."
Explanation: Petőfi Sándor was a hungarian poet, who lived in the 19th century, to be exact 1823-1849, he was one of the "March's Youngsters" (márciusi ifjak), so he fought in the 1848-49 Revolution, but he wasn't an *actual* soldier, he was too unwholesome (is this a real word? woah) for that, but he tried really hard to became a soldier...
And, back to the pun, so "költött" has a meaning "spent" and also "wrote poems", and this senctence play with this duality.
