Born of average, destined for a fate,
Her name resounded within the capital gate
Within the prosperous city of Chang' An,
A palace was built mighty and grand.
The flourishing dragon named Emperor Xuanzhong,
Reigned his years fierce and strong.
The claws of dragon made a upright rule,
He was a outstanding man and not a fool.
He who commanded the myriad of armies,
Was a veteran who implored fearsome strategies.
He conquered his enemies
And extended his territories.
But, no matter how great a man was,
No matter how his land was vast,
A man is still a human with vulnerable feelings,
The downfall of his nation started at a spring.
That day he met her, Yang Yuhuan,
A concubine of Prince Li Mao, his son.
She was a beauty no Lady can compare,
The moment he laid his eyes, his heart was ensnared.
He took her to the palace in his volition,
Li Mao hesitated with protestation.
She was pampered and her influence grew,
Like a soaring figure, a phoenix who flew.
Her foster family was made high ranking offficials,
They're rose from fame and had pedestals.
Xuanzhong indulged himself with his beloved,
Every time his rule and duty was neglected.
A willowing fantasy, the great man was pleasured.
His actions and changes were beyond measured.
Just when they thought he will wake up from a dream,
He made the hot spring larger and brimmed.
His minister and armies started to doubt,
The righteous man changed abrupt.
The man was captivated by the beautiful nymph,
Who's versed with music, she played a melodious hymn.
Her slender waist twisted and spunned,
He witnessed a dance that made him stunned.
He was around her fingers at every call,
The same man that was praised and feared by all.
Their love story was passed on many generations,
The love of the man with the deepest devotion.
A love story with a tragic twist,
Xuanzhong world's became darkly mist.
Yang Yuhuan was forced to be hang,
Under a Buddhist temple in Tang.
A rebellion was incited by her adopted son,
The general of turkish origin, An Lushan.
With the weakened army insisted demands,
The emperor reluctantly issued the command.
The Yangs were demoted from their positions,
As punishments for unjust and corruption.
Yang Guozhong, was killed in a mutiny,
As, Yuhuan was hang by Gao Lishi.
An Lushan was pursued as criminal,
And eventually was stopped based on the annals
After the rebellion was crushed, the city progressed nominally,
But the Tang Empire never regained it's former glory.
The emperor suffered losing Yang Yuhuan,
Not long after, he died as a broken man.
The calamitous beauty, Yang Guifei
Brought the empire to it's decay.
