Take me and go
Oh hurry and go
We've been stuck in one place
For far too long

It's been days/months/years
Since we have tasted summer on our tongues
Since it's saccharine flavor
Has dripped off our cherry red lips
As we basked in the warmth
Of an endless summer

We were stuck in this desolate waste land
Of slate gray skies and dwindling hope
For much too long
The days wearing us down
Ebbing away with painful slowness
Until all that was left were hollow bodies
Of dust and ruins

But we are gone from those times
Slipped away in the dead of night
And those places
Teeming with people that robbed us of our light
Took our hearts with greedy fingers
And ground them into ashes
They are nothing but negligible fragments of memories and wraiths
(We are better than that)
We have outrun them

And now we are left
With an endless summer
(What are we to do with days
We never thought we would live to see)

Please give me that sweet taste,
Ice cream cake
It has been too long
Since our hearts have felt so light
Since we have been wrapped in ribbons
Of luminescence and starlight
Since the sun has kissed us and our frozen skin

It is almost as if we don't know how to live
Now that we are not fighting tooth and nail
Bloodied and soot covered
For every last heaving breath
(Who are you when you finally escape the tragedy anyway?
Does the thought of being happy frighten us
Just as much as the sorrow did?)

Oh vanilla chocolate honey with a cherry on top
Just promise that this newfound ice cream flavor
That the sparkling champagne and the glittering laughter
Will always stay

Allow your shaking fingers
To intertwine with mine
Forget the wounds left from old battles
That still litter your body
Forget the demons
That got so close to tearing apart your delicate heart
And take me and go
Let's just hurry and go
To our brand new halcyon days

The premise of Ice Cream Cake
Ice cream cake is a poetry book meant to tell the story of life through the eyes of an eighteen year old Latina woman. It is a book about existence and three of its key flavors, the ice, the cream, and the cake. More than just a story about romantic love, it is a tale of the many different adventures and paths (heartbreak, love, mental health issues, insecurities, and friendships) that make up a person's life.
