They brought a new set of girls today
It's a cycle
Phases like the moon
They send out the ones finally pregnant
Too old
Or too broken
And bring in a fresh set
New and pretty and terrified
They cry
They always cry the first few times
I never wanted to hurt anyone
Not even these fragile human girls
But
Some of them I heard
Volunteer
They like it
They want it
Whatever it is about us that fascinates them
Brings them here
I don't understand
Why anyone would want to be here
I remember one
She was different than the others
Her long hair like flames
And her eyes glinting emeralds
She smiled at me each time
Screamed, but not in fear
Her eyes were hungry
She stayed longer than most
Then one day she was gone
I never think about why
I don't want to think about my children
Wherever they are
They tag the girls we have
To prevent interbreeding later on in the future
The pregnant girls are taken away to another facility where they monitor them up until the birth
Then the child is taken away
Never to know the pain
The suffering
It was created from
***
Something strange happens today
The Grove is normal
It's the equivalent of a slum
Beneath a huge facility
We don't know how it was made
It just was
We are not allowed to go near the humans
To prevent any unnecessary breeding
A tall metal fence
Separates us
The top wrapped in barbed wire
Yet even if it didn't
We'd segregate ourselves
We have very few females of our kind here
They typically clean and cook the meals we rarely get
They, the ones up top, don't care about them living with us
We are unable to reproduce among our own kind anymore
The disease that struck us
Before my people came to earth
Festered inside your reproductive organs
Rendering you infertile
Luckily
Some of us were immune
Though maybe it wasn't luck at all
I wandered around the Grove
Lost in thought
Passing by a rocky side of the slum
Above it is a long window
Some of them from up top liked to watch us
Starving
Fighting
Losing ourselves
I'm close enough to see through
One of the new humans is walking past
Two guards at her side
She turns her head and stares into the grove
Violet eyes catching me
Her hair was as blue as the sky
Nothing I've ever seen before
She stares at me
Her face expressionless
Her eyes are like iron
Weighing me down
They watch me
Unblinking
Something was different about them
Unlike any eyes I've ever seen on a human girl
No fear
