cHAPTER 18

Hunter

"B?" I called her name. The corridors were lighted with torches, giving it a medieval look. The walls were lined with pink flags, some with pictures of doves on them. "Where are you?" I was already hopelessly lost, but I kept wandering anyway. I turned a corner and found a door that was slightly open. I pushed it a bit and found a library. I was about to admire the beautiful architecture and large oak tree in the middle, but I noticed B in the corner of the room. "There you are." I walked over to her.

"Sorry, I was caught up in my reading." B blinked. "I think I found something."

"Really? What?" I sat in a chair next to her and looked over her shoulder.

"It's about Filkhorn. I think I know how we're supposed to defeat him."

"It's a spell. I can't read it though." I say. "It looks like a bunch of gibberish. Doesn't look like Greek or any other language."

"I can read it." I hear B say softly. "The page says that if you can read the spell, then you have to cast the spell."

"What does the page say?"

B cleared her throat. "This is the spell that can destroy the reign of evil for a long time. It will defeat any mythical beast in history. The spell can only be cast once, and it takes a lot of energy from the person who casts the spell. You need to collect a variety of monster dust." She paused. "That's basically what it says. It's a lot of word twisting."

"That's the best you could come up with?" I teased.

"I'm bad with words." B stutters out. "We, well I don't know if you have to come, so I have to go, um." I guess she really is bad with words. "Dress fitting with Aphrodite."

"Kay. I'll do some more reading. See what I can find." I chuckle.

"Bye." She walks out. I get my nose in the book and begin reading.

"I just adore that dress on you!" Aphrodite gushes.

"I can't fight, I can barely breathe, and it's just plain ugly." I retort.

"Pink totally matches your skin tone!" Aphrodite gasps.

"Ladies, you're giving me a headache. Try this one, Mariah. It didn't look good on me, but I think you'll like it." B tosses me a dress. It's a deep green and has a simple long sleeved top. I sigh and walk into the changing room. I slip in on, and walk out. B gasps. "It looks so good on you!" She grins. I don't tell them that I'm not really feeling it. I see the look in B's eyes, and I know she understands.

"Fabulous, daahling!" Aphrodite squeals. "I'm thinking a green headband and black heels."

"Not heels." I demanded. "Don't even think about it." I quickly go back into the changing room, and change into my comfy sweatshirt and leggings. "Your turn B." I hear her sigh. I walk out of the room and see that B is holding 2 dresses in her hand and 4 in the other.

"I'll try this one." B says and drops all of the other ones. It's a strapless black dress that goes up to her knees with a few ruffles. She goes into the changing room. A few minutes later, she walks out. She's fidgeting with her hands.

"I love it!" I say, and I really do. It's like it was made to fit her.

"It really is pretty." She says, and twirls around. I can see that she isn't convinced.
