Brow Basics

The Basics:

What you'll need: Tweezers, brow brush (or clean and recycle and old mascara wand), mini scissors, aloe or brow gel.

Basic grooming: First, figure out what type of brow shape you want. There are a lot of helpful charts and guides online that can help you find the most flattering brow style based on your face shape. Once you've figured out your shape, then start plucking the excess hairs (Don't overpluck!!!!).

Another thing that helps to keep brows from looking too bushy is to comb the hairs up, and trim down hair that extends beyond desired hair/shape line. Comb them down and do the same thing. Take an eyeliner pencil and place it vertically against your nose. It should run from the side of the nose, mid-mouth, and by the tear duct of the eye. This is where your eyebrow should start; any hair that is visible beyond the pencil should be tweezed.

Next place the pencil diagonally where it should hit the middle of the mouth, nostril, and outside the iris of the eye. This is wear your arch is. Tweeze a gradual line from the arch, to the start of the eyebrow.

To determine the end of the eyebrow, place the pencil diagonally across to the opposite corners of the mouth, nostril, and outside corner of the eye. Any hair that goes past should be tweezed.

This chart should help with what I explained:

Once you have them trimmed up, you can use your brush to shape them and the gel to help the hairs stay in place

Extra:

What you'll need: Small angled brush, brow pencil, and either brow powder or brow pomade, concealer.

After your brows are shaped and brushed, use your pencil to line the bottom and top of the brow, then also the tail of the brow. Remember to do all of this very lightly, and use a q-tip to clean and soften and smears or harsh lines. Lightly use the pencil to fill in the tail of your brow.

Start to fill in your brow using either your powder or pomade (if you're new to this, then I recommend using powder instead of pomade, it's much easier and more forgiving. If you do decide to use pomade, a little bit goes a long way. Pomade is good for a dramatic look, and powder is best for the natural look.) As you start to fill in your brow, don't fill it in at the very front. Instead, blend a lighter brow color into the front.

Now, if you want to highlight your brow, use a concealer that's a shade or two lighter than your skin tone to really make your brows pop!

Then, use your clear or tinted gel to keep 'em in place, and that's it!
