Aghast.

Stunned.

Devastated.

The feelings glided across our faces, fast as lightening. Jest's face, whiter than parchment. The sisters giggling, sinister. "What do you mean gone?!" I screamed, desperate. "I mean GONE!" Said Elsie. Lacie let go of the tree branch and dropped to the floor. "He has gone to the beyond! No coming back from there." She whispered eerily. "He went to take Jest's place"

I felt the words hitting me like arrows on a target. All those things I had said. He's gone and the last thing we did was fight. "No... No..." Jest said shaking his head. "There must be a way... there must be some way." He whispered, voice quivering. "I told you... It's too late. He gave us what we wanted... we did what he wanted." Tillie said.

"But the prophecies... you said they can't change." My voice dissolved in my tears. All three stood in front of us in a row. "Anything can be changed." Their voices were intense and serious. "If paid a big enough price." They finished. Their voices lingered in my ears.
