This time, I'm going to evaluate my theories on Eddward "Double D" Vincent. One of them being the question that pissed off every child who watched this series: What the everloving fuck is under Double D's hat?! So look forward to that.

First Thought: Eddward was an accident

This doesn't mean that Edd is not loved by his parents, there are actually lots of instances where it shows that he is cared for and loved. Despite their absence, they do often parent him, buy him clothes and wish him well in academic competitions such as the spelling bee in season 5. (Actually, it was in Too smart for his own Ed. Remember when Double D misspelled Gravy?) They're there without being there. In Fistful of Ed, where Double D was mistaken for the school bully, Double D got a special note from his mother telling him cheer up attached to some cobbler. Its obvious, he is cared for and loved. Despite their absence in the show, they can still catch his emotions and they are well aware of his activities and even some of his motives. However, there are some clues about Edd's parents sprinkled in there. In "Shoo Ed", where they use Johnny to annoy the living hell out of everyone until they give the eds some money to dispose of him, while they were setting up their "creation" Edd gets insulted that Eddy calls a suit annoying and that was his reasoning for putting it on him. Actually stating, "My father wears a suit!" In Fa-La-La-La Ed, where they were once again in Double D's house, Ed and Eddy manage somehow to get in his parents room and in their closet. If you see it, you can see business suits on both Edd's father's and mother's side before Double D talks about the fruitcake they keep in the closet. From their absence, they are probably just as busy as they were when they conceived Eddward or even more busy since then. And if you think stereotypically, most people would think those who have suits to wear everyday, they would most likely think businessman and businesswoman. Judging by the area they live in (ie the cul-de-sac) they're not high up, but they're high enough to both be well to do and live in suburbia. Edd's vast interest in knowledge could stem from his parents, many successful parents often pressure their children to not follow in their footsteps but be just as well off or better than them. They often push their children to excel in school as well, evidenced by the many awards and books placed neatly in the room. Smartly, his parents put the love of learning into the child at a young age. His father letting him take down his old radio to learn how it works as evidenced in One + One = Ed. My little theory here, is that they were too busy to truly be there for a child like someone would want to be. Both of their jobs are very important and they can't get out of it. One night of lovemaking produced an unplanned Edd. Do they regret it? I don't think so. I'm more than positive that they love him very very much.

Theory Two:

THE FUCKS UNDERNEATH THAT HAT?!

The age old question. Something we've always wondered. Things children agonized over for years and years. The fucks under that hat. Long hair? A conjoined twin? I've even heard a Swatzika. (Yeah I'm serious. People are wild.) I think it's a scar. Here's my reasoning here:

The rare instances where the scar is revealed, it tells a lot about what's under the hat. The first time, the two other Ed's were shocked to see his head. Ed simply responded cool. AS soon as Edd puts his hat back on he exclaims, "You better not say a word!" This conveys something he's not proud of or ashamed of its presence. The second time was during the movie and as Eddy jokes, "My eyes they burn!" Ed once again looks mesmerized as the last one and he simply asks, "does it hurt?" This is why I think it was a scar. Something permenant, given the time that has passed by the seasons. Then the question: "Does it hurt?" This is is something you ask about if someone has some sort of deformity or injury like that. And since Ed is basically childlike the same rules apply. Then in Ed in a Halfshell, when playing Dodgeball, Edd reveals a lot of what may have happened to him. When Eddy is taunting him about him being next to be hit with the ball. He covers his head, screams about flashbacks, more specifically, "ITS GYM CLASS ALL OVER AGAIN!" It almost looks like a Panic attack or him reliving the trauma. Whatever happened at Gym class must've scarred him for life. Literally and metaphorically.
