Are you afraid?

It is 00:24 and I seem to love waiting for a new day to be born
For twenty three hundred hours to tick into zero-zero, yours sincerely
The shadows whisper while I wait.
They tell me never ending stories and fairy tales.
Of children screaming and parents's nightlights.

I am not like the old men of the caves, I do not fear the darkness,
I need not your flame, your ammunition against such malicious creatures
the unseen things under our beds, hiding in the corners of our rooms
Clinging to the shadows, they hiss and conspire

Are you still afraid of the dark? The night terrors?
No need to lie or make excuses
Don't fluster yourself,dear
Just open up and speak
Are you afraid of the things that live in the dark?

Do not pretend, just speak "We've met."
Smooth.Silky.Do not let them know,
"I remember 1950,Am I right?Great year."
But younger you had never felt more scared.
Clinging to the duvet, too scared to cry for mummy.
You could have swore you felt their fangs across your neck.

Do will still forget we have fire?
Fire that burns,destroys and eliminates
Fire is our enemy's bane, and yet one of ours too.
But!
Shadows disappear and all you're scared of is the pile of clothes by the door.
So get our your fire and flame and let all of Edinbrugh's shadows burn tonight!
