Prologue

J.R stared out of the window pane in nervous silence, blinking at every drop that hit it. His emotions weren't evident in his facial expression, but the way he was rubbing his hands together told Escher he was scared.

"I don't care," he said suddenly, looking up at her with wide eyes. "It doesn't matter to me."

She was surprised, completely thrown off guard. She'd expected him to throw in the towel and call it quits.

He took her hand and looked at his lap, self concious. "They say at our age you're too young to handle loving another person. They say it's a concept our minds just can't grasp, that we need more experience to be able to take on that responsiblility."

He looked up at Escher, his eyes fixated on her own, and shook his head. "I know that's what they say."

"But I love you, I love you, I love you."
