Even with Martin there, Declan still didn't feel very happy. He was as depressed as anything and he hated it. Even with Martin staying in his apartment with him, he felt alone. Still. Ant could see that.
Another day of filming in Australia had ended and, once again, Dec wanted to go straight back to the apartment and be alone, but his brother had other plans.
"How about me, you and Anthony go out? Hey, Decky?" Martin suggested, "I haven't been here before and I would like to explore the local area,"
Ant nodded in agreement and smiled slightly, "Aye. It'll be fun, Decs. We can show Mart around and go for breakfast somewhere? We haven't eaten much today. It'll be good to get some fresh air, rather than this jungle air,"
Relunctantly, Dec agreed to make his brother and best friend happy. When he nodded, both men grinned and cheered, making Dec smile weakly.
An hour later, after Ant and Dec had cleaned up and changed, then the three of them headed off to the local town. Martin and Ant talked the whole walk there, whereas Dec was silently walking behind them, hands in his pockets and eyes glued to the ground.
Martin noticed this and paused, waiting until his little brother caught up and swung an arm around his shoulder.
"Well, Decky, how's the series going? Me and the family have been watching it every night and we've been enjoying it. The kids love seeing their uncle on TV. They brag about it at school," The older man laughed.
"If you've been watching it, you know how it's been going," Dec snapped, startling both Martin and Ant.
"Declan," Ant sighed, pointing a half hearted glare at his best friend. Dec sighed and sucked in a breath.
"Sorry, Mart," He apologised, looking sheepish. Martin only grinned and shrugged as to say, I'm used to it, "Yeah, it's going alright. Weather is always warm, sometimes raining, but it's going well. The early mornings are hard, though. Up at 1:30am and getting to set at 3am. It's hard work, but we enjoy it," He answered the question asked.
Martin laughed and nodded, "Aye, I can imagine. But, you're doing amazing, kidda. We're all so proud of you back at home. Mam doesn't stop talking about you! The girls at the market hear about you every day," The three men shared a laugh and for once, Dec felt happy.
"I'm glad you're here, Mart," He said sincerely, looking up at his older brother. Martin smiled and kissed his head.
"I'm glad I'm here too, titch. Haven't seen much of you lately. We're both always so busy," He replied, pulling Dec just a little closer to him as they found a nice restaurant for breakfast. Martin pulled his brother into a hug and the two stayed like that for a few moments.
Ant watched the exchange and smiled. He hadn't seen Dec genuinely smile for a while and it warmed his heart to see. He knew it was a good idea to get Martin here. Dec and his family are close. Always have been. So, he knew getting another Donnelly here was a great idea.
Ant just hoped this smile stayed.
