Later that night, Max sat in front of the door like he always did, waiting for Katie to come home. This time, he was also waiting for Duke. The big dog still hadn't returned back to the apartment after this morning. Max knew this because he spent the entire day inside, blowing off some steam. He was still mad at Gidget for cheating on him. He still couldn't believe that she would do something like that, after all they had been through together.
Just then, the door opened as Katie entered the apartment with a smile on her face. "I'm home boys..." her voice faltered when she realized that Duke wasn't there. The smile that had been on her face disappeared. "Not again," she muttered quietly as she began searching the apartment. Concerned, Max helped out as well. But in the end, there was no sign of the big dog.
