[Song above]

Kageyama was having a wonderful dream. He was with Hinata, sitting on a grassy hill, surrounded by flowers. The redhead was smiling and laughing, rocking back and forth with joy. Kageyama could feel a smile forming on his own mouth as well, he wrapped an arm around the smaller boy to steady him. It was so pleasant, he felt so happy.

The other night, dear, as I lay sleeping,
I dreamed I held you in my arms.

Then he woke up, alone. And that warm summery feeling was replaced by emptiness. The familiar feeling weighed on him, of mountainous misery. Another day without his loved one. His eyes misted with tears, and since there was no one around to see, he let them fall.

But when I woke, dear, I was mistaken,
And I hung my head and I cried.

Hinata had always made him happy. Even when he couldn't smile, no matter where they were, or what they were doing, Hinata's smile was the sun. It was so bright, but he couldn't look away. And that smile made him completely blind.

You are my sunshine, my only sunshine.
You make me happy when skies are grey.
You'll never know, dear, how much I love you.
Please don't take my sunshine away.

Every time Kageyama thought back on it, his memory focused on one thing, the same thing he thoroughly regretted. He had confessed his love for Hinata. Months of working up the courage to say it resulted in a confession that had made him so nervous he'd nearly thrown up.

I'll always love you, and make you happy,
If you will only say the same.
But if you leave me, and love another,
You'll regret it all some day.

He had been so desperate for a return of affection, and blinded by that smile of sunshine, he hadn't even noticed that Hinata's words were insincere. He hadn't noticed the lies. Or maybe he had, but ignored them because he wanted so badly for the other boy to stay with him.

You are my sunshine, my only sunshine.
You make me happy when skies are grey.
You'll never know, dear, how much I love you.
Please don't take my sunshine away.

He wished now that he had noticed. He wished he had tried harder to hold on, but at the time he didn't want to be a bother. Hinata said that he returned Kageyama's feelings. The latter hadn't realized he wanted a refund.

You told me once, dear, you really loved me,
And no one could come between.

But then Hinata left. He began dating that girl. And Kageyama was so jealous. He wanted to hate that girl. He wanted to hate Hinata. But in the end, the only one he hated was himself. For getting his hopes up. For daring to dream of a future in which he was with the one he loved... in which he was happy.

But now you've left me to love another.
You have shattered all of my dreams.

He was so busy feeling sorry for himself, running through every scenario in his head, wondering what he had done wrong, how he could have held on to his love longer, how he he could win Hinata back, that he didn't notice that sunshine smile was beginning to fade. Not just for him, but for everyone.

You are my sunshine, my only sunshine.
You make me happy when skies are grey.
You'll never know, dear, how much I love you.

He was stuck in his own head, and even though he had spent so long basking in that smile, he couldn't see that it was disappearing behind the clouds, preparing for rain.

Please don't take my sunshine away.

And then his love was gone. Hinata was gone. Every day after that was so dark it felt like night. In every dream, Kageyama could see only the back of his orange head. His heart physically ached, and he wished Hinata had just come to him.

In all my dreams, dear, you seem to leave me.
When I awake, my poor heart pains.

He would have taken the small boy back without a second thought. He would have held him close. It had been his fault, anyway. He didn't know how to hold onto a relationship, and so Hinata had left. But if he'd return, Kageyama would have happily forgiven him, he was the sun. The only light in Kageyama's life.

So won't you come back, and make me happy.
I'll forgive, dear, I'll take all the blame.

But Hinata hadn't come to him.

You are my sunshine, my only sunshine.

His sunshine smile continued to fade.

You make me happy when skies are grey.

Kageyama would have professed his love a million times, and it still wouldn't have been enough.

You'll never know, dear, how much I love you.

He just wanted to hold his love in his arms again.

Please don't take my sunshine away.

He wanted Hinata to come back. To stay.

Oh please don't take my sunshine away.

But it was too late.
