Carl Tanzler was a bacteriologist who fell in love with one of his patients, Elena Milagro de Hoyos. She soon died of tuberculosis. He then dug up her body and kept the corpse in his house for 7 years, binding the rotting body together with wires ad wax. After the authorities found out about his unusual living arrangements, Tenzler was arrested but wasn't charged as the statute of limitations had expired. In a further act of worrying obsession, Tanzler then created a life-size mannequin model of Hoyos and lived with his 'lover' until his death.
