with IT fanfictions, i've noticed that with the OC's family, they're usually either abusive or just really dysfunctional and problematic (like richie and his parents)
1) it's highly unoriginal and 2) dysfunctional doesn't have to mean the parents are horrible people and they hurt the oc.
your oc's family could actually be decent and okay.
or maybe even like eddie's mum or my stan uris' fics character, wendy's mother - manipulative. and that gave them their fears (eddie fearing disease and wendy's fearing of screwing up!)
here are some ideas for your family that could be really interesting and original!
- homeless, poor
- manipulative parents
- single parent
- a sibling being the guardian (over 18/21 of course)
- a parent being braindead, unresponsive to people
