Shanaya Correa, a powerful name. My name. To me, it was just a name. No significance. To others it belongs to the daughter of one of the top lawyers in the country. Yet to my family, here lies a disgrace. The devil worshiper, according to my eccentric mother. My father believes I may be depressed. Relatives scowl at my very being, what unladylike young woman.
"Shanaya! Open your door right now." My very loud best friends shout through the door.
"Coming." I groan and press the button next to my bed that opens the door.
"Well then, I see you're too lazy to press a darn button." Azlyn scowls and Nyah giggles as she slowly comes by my side to give me a small kiss on the cheek.
Azlyn and Nyah had been my best friends since we were born, few months apart. Nyah born in June, myself in July, and finally Azlyn in August. Azlyn sports her blonde hair with black tips, a new trend she was trying. It matched her sarcastic attitude. Her bright blue eyes shone with mischief as she smirks at me.
Nyah jumps into the bed with me, her copper brown hair falling onto my face. She giggles as I sputter at a few strands dropping into my mouth. Nyah is considered the better one. My mother loved her more than me. Of course, it was only because Nyah is extremely polite and acts like her status. Rich.
"It's Monday, Az, of course I'm too lazy." I sigh and flop back in bed and cuddle up to Nyah who strokes my hair.
"Well watch out, Az is coming in!" Azlyn grunts before jumping into the bed next to me.
"Oh my dearie! I am so sorry, Miss Shanaya! I seem to be intruding on something." My nanny walks in and starts to stutter. She's a bit wacko. She thinks Azlyn and I are in a secret relationship or something.
"Oh why not come join us, Miss Sara." Azlyn purrs (literally) and Miss Sara scoffs before charging out of the room.
"Oh, Az, that wasn't very nice. But anyways, Shay, you need to get ready. The board will want to see you soon." Nyah reminds me and I sigh once again before taking out my remote to scan my options.
The board is actually my father's company's board of directors. Since I appear to be the heir who gets the company when he retires, I have monthly meetings with them. Trust me, it is as boring as it looks. I have fallen asleep plenty of times.
"Oh! How about those ripped jeans and skater shirt?" Azlyn grins and gets whacked on the head by Nyah, "Az! She has to wear something proper like... Oh! That pencil skirt with the blazer."
I shake my head and go to my usual: gray skinnies and white t shirt with a striped cardigan.
"Ugh not again." Azlyn groans as I hop into my closet and get changed.
"At least do something with your hair, chica." Az pleads and I laugh, "Like what? It's curly already."
"Oh do a messy bun!" Nyah comments and I raise an eyebrow, "Not bad."
"Shanaya!" We all frown as we hear my nanny yell for me and the girls quickly fix my hair before hooking arms with me.
"Well, let's go face our judgement." Az says and we head downstairs. My house is a mansion, clearly matching our status as my mother would say. Growing up, I never actually thought of it as a palace or anything, just a house. My home. As I got older, I soon came to the realization that this was much more like a prison than anything.
"Shanaya! What took you so long? Oh my God, you aren't even wearing any makeup or anything! What will they say?" My mom flutters around me and I roll my eyes, that matched hers, at her.
"Shanaya, don't roll your eyes at your mother." My dad chastises from the sofa, turning the page in his newspaper.
"Good morning, daddy!" Siara comes prancing into the room, all dressed up. Her brown hair bouncing in the tight ponytail she sports. Siara is my younger sister. At the age of eight, my mother has already trained her to become a young lady. She knew which fork to use, how to ride a horse like a lady, talk to socialites, etc.
