I could still feel the goofy smile on my face since I left Mady and Sam. That was two hours ago. The reality hit when I was just about to turn into Jack's driveway. Jumping out of the truck, closing my eyes, tilting my head back, and took a deep breath. The scent of freshly cut wood and my brothers that have started to work on the boat shelter already felt like home. This is my life, my family, and the ones I would give my life for just as they would for him.

The sounds of the saws and nail guns going off as they bickered back and forth was a comforting sound. Letting out a high pitch whistle I knew they all would hear even over the high power tools. By the time I reached the back of the truck all was quiet and my brothers were coming around the corner of the house. Knowing my brothers, as well as I did, they would be firing off questions about the new female in our Territory in seconds. Having a plan in place even before arriving I yelled, "Make line boys, here it comes."

Keeping some distance between me and them I threw the first bundle of shingles at the unexpected Mason. Catching any of them off guard at any given time was almost an impossible task. Their reflexes and senses always had them knowing of what was happening around them at all times. Once the bundle was out of my hands I quickly threw another one and kept it going. Standing 20 feet from each other, it should only take maybe 15 minutes to have the truck unloaded, and back on the road. With the most important, avoiding the boys questions. That was if everything went my way.

Jack's booming laughter came from the side closest to the house. "I know what you're doing there Nate, and I would be surprised if you pull it off."

"Just unloading the truck, Jack. I'm running late and this way will save a lot of time." I responded with a grin.

"Uh huh." Jack lowered his amused voice giving the delusion of privacy, "and how long do you think you can keep the hounds at bay?"

"Hopefully long enough to get the trucked unloaded and for me to make my get away," I said with confidence I wasn't feeling. "When I was in town I didn't hear a damn thing about the missing girl. Have you?" Changing the subject might just help my goal, but this was a serious matter to be discussed.

"It is true, her name was Cassie something, 23, shoulder length brown hair, 5'5", on the skinny side. She was only turned a year ago, just a cub." Staring off, looking as if he was trying to remember something. "The weird thing is, she sounds so familiar, but I don't know why. It feels like I should know something, but can't put my finger on it."

Frowning. "She does sound familiar...huh. Did Lawrence get in touch with you yet?"

He shook his head. "No. I don't know if that is a good or bad thing.

"Hey Jack, can you unload that beer for me, I don't think throwing it will be a good thing."

Snorting, and grabbing three cases at a time. "So is that how it's going to be?"

"What are you talking about, Jack?"

"Nate," he warned.

"She's a nice girl and she makes Mady happy, what more can I ask for. The thing is, Mady is real protected of her. I promised I would do my best to keep everyone away from her, well at least for awhile. So I decided if I keep my mouth shut, less chance of getting in shit from my mate." Before I finished Jack was bending over laughing.

"Thanks Jack. Thanks for the vote of confidence." I couldn't hold my own laughter in. "Yes, I know I'm screwed."

"Oh...that's...priceless," Jack got out between breaths.

"So any advice 'O' Alpha of mine?" I didn't hold back on the sarcasm.

"Sure do. Go and apologize to Mady for not being able to keep that promise in advance. What on earth made you promise something like that in the first place? You know the men to women ratio are about 10 to 1," he shook his head in disbelief.

"I am so fucked." Dropping my shoulders in defeat. "Can you do me another favour?"

"Sure." Jack said still looking amused.

"Open the truck door for me. I'm almost done here."

"You better move fast, the boys have probably caught on by now," Jack said, still laughing.

Seconds later I was in the truck, started the engine and got about two feet before I had to slam on the brakes. There stood, bigger than ever was my brother. My blood brother.

Hands on the hood as to prevent me from moving. Which he could do without a problem. "And where do you think you're going in such a hurry Bro?" Dmitri asked with a smug smile.

Cursing under my breath, "I'm late as it is. I told Mady I would be home 30 minutes ago."

Arms now crossed over his massive chest. "Already taken care of, I just talked to her and she knows you be home in 15 minutes and it only takes 4 to get home, so let's have a chat."

Knowing when the battle was lost, I had no other choice but to get this over with. "I don't know much guys, and you're just wasting your time. You will all see her soon enough. So can't this wait?"

"It might so let's take a vote." Never taking his eyes off me, treating me like I was his prey. In a way I guess I was. Raising his voice louder then needed since the rest of the men now surrounded the truck "What do you think boys, should we let Nate here off the hook?" Dmitri new then answer already and so did I.

As if they have practised it, in unison they all said, "Hell NO!"

Jack's booming laugh was still echoing as the men quieted.

"Thanks Jack," I grumbled, "What do you fuckers want to know? Like I said I don't know much."

Mason was the first to answer. More like a real brother to me, then the rest of them besides Dmitri. Mason could easily pass off as a 25 years old. Built more like a quarterback at 6', then my own linebacker psychic of 6'4". His strawberry blonde hair, violet eyes, was close to looking like a love god and had women falling all over him. Watching the twinkle in those violet coloured eyes, I cut Mason off before he could finish whatever he was going to ask. "Mason, she's 35, a little older than you normally go for dude."

"I have a wide range on what I like, thank you very much. I don't discriminate against age," he said mocking his hurt feelings.

"Man is she that bad, is that why you are tight lipped?" One of his brothers asked.

Now I laughed, "No she is not that bad...she's cute with a lot of spunk. Hey, you guys seen her last night, so what's with the questions?" Thinking back when she brought up her vibrator that she had named had me chuckling even more. Spunk was one work to describe Sam.

"Ah, no we didn't. Come on Nate: hair, eyes, body?" Dmitri asked.

"OK, OK she has green eyes, red hair that goes halfway down her back and all I have seen her in is oversized clothes so I don't know what to tell you 'bout her body." It must have been some of the teenagers in the area that seen a new car and was curious. Mady assumed it was my brother and the rest of the men that were at our place earlier. Glancing down at my watch. "Shit, I gotta go they should be ready by the time I get there." Jumping back in the truck I only had to wait a few seconds before they gave up and moved.
