Things lost in the fire

"Hey Uji, it's been a while.
How have you been?"

[I have drowned myself in cities to find parts of me that you left with]

"I am sorry I couldn't stay"

[You mean you're sorry for leaving me standing high above the floodline while watching all I love go by?]

"I loved you and I still do."

[No, I loved you]

[I held cigarette prayers for your return. Spent countless nights looking for warmth in bottles and walking home with stuttering knee caps clanking like silver spoons. I chased every memory of it. Our memories, laced with heartache. You beckoned me, I yielded and you left me standing at an altar singing in agony]

"I didn't mean for things to turn out the way they did,
I'm sorry."

[I'm sorry too]

"And I miss you"

[I still ponder you too. The thought of you occurs like summer rain, hurts but enticing nonetheless. But I spend a good portion of my day spitting out any taste of this and throwing out all the luggage you left in the four walled room of my heart. Forever's final hours were painful enough for me.]

"Please call me when you get this message."

[I won't]
