Chapter 5

"Is that my handsome boy?" A voice called from a room to Darcy's right. "Come here and give mummy a squeeze!" They continued.

Darcy stifled a giggle, slapping her hand across her mouth, at what she presumed was Adams mum.

Adam face palmed, red creeping up his cheeks. Whispering "why?!" Under his breath.

They moved towards the open door. Darcy sniffed up as an amazing aroma got stronger and stronger the closer they got.

As they entered the room they were met by gorgeous white marble counter tops. A short figure chopping away with her back to them.
A tall gentleman sat on the opposite side of the counter reading a broadsheet newspaper. He looked up at the pair as they entered.

Darcy could see the similarities between Adam and who she decided must have been his father. The striking jawline and similar, if not slightly tired, build they shared was a giveaway.

"I hope you're hungry young man, I made your favourite. Mummy's marvellous Mac and cheese!" With that she turned to greet her son and was taken back when she realised he wasn't alone.

Seemingly, lost for words. Adams father stood up and walked round the counter to greet Darcy and Adam.

"Hello young lady. I'm Adrian. And this is my beautiful wife Annie." Darcy shook his outstretched hand. Smiling up at him.

"Darcy." Darcy replied. "I'm Darcy, lovely to meet you!" She said, her confidence growing with the warm smiles that surrounded her.

Annie barged her husband out of the way and engulfed Darcy in a back breaking hug. "Forgive me love, I just didn't think you actually existed!" She said pulling away slightly. " I thought Addy was making you up to get us off his back!" She chuckled giving Adam a pointed look.

"Muuuum" Adam whined. His face getting even redder.

"Oh hush hush boy!" Annie said, shooing Adam with her hand and going back to chopping strawberries. "Besides, any woman who can make my little boy smile like you did dear is welcome anytime!" She smiled at Darcy, in a way that filled Darcy with warmth. But also caused Darcy to go a little red.

She couldn't believe Adam was telling the truth about the reason she'd been dragged to meet his parents.

Darcy smiled back. As much as Adam looked like his father. He definitely got his eyes from his mother. That striking green was unmistakable.

Adam turned to Darcy. "I'm going to get a drink, would you like one gorgeous?" He asked.

"Yes, please." She nodded. She still struggled to compute every time he used that affectionate nickname for her.

Adam reached up and grabbed two glasses from the cupboard. His midriff peeping from under his top from stretching.

Darcy couldn't help but look. Her eyes travelling further down. Remembering where she was she shook herself mentally and looked back up to Adams face. Only to realise he was looking at her. She'd been caught checking him out.

A smirk painted across his face, Adam came back over to her and set the glasses down on the counter.

Adam brought his head down close to her ear. "Like what you see, hmm?" He whispered so only the two of them could hear. His lips practically touching her ear. Sending shivers down Darcy's spine.

A cough echoed from the doorway and the two of them whipped round. A tall slim light haired woman stood there, arms crossed. A perfect eyebrow raised curiously at the encounter she had just witnessed.

"Well Addy, when you said she was gorgeous." She said, looking Darcy up and down. "You weren't kidding!" The woman's face changed completely and instead stretched her arms out to Darcy, her smile beaming. "Hello lovely, I'm Amy!"

Darcy relaxed into her embrace, she could see these bone crushing hugs might be a family trait. Possibly something she'd have to get used to.

Darcy chuckled. "Darcy." She breathed out.

"Hey, sis." Adam said. "I think you might be cutting off her blood!" Waving a hand in front of his sisters face.

Amy pulled away. "We wouldn't want to kill the first girl little Addy's brought home in twenty one years!" She said, smacking him playfully on the shoulder.

The rest of the family laughed at Adams expense. Darcy looked at him and his family together. It was nice to see so much love in one room. Her anxiety's disappearing, Darcy realised she was already beginning to feel a sense of belonging.
