14 year old Malachi looked at the evergreens trees, it was winter time in New York City and the city was flooded with snow

All the trees were stripped and naked, bare, gnarled and ugly looking, some of them were leaning and tore off from their stumps and layed effortlessly on the brown grass

But not the evergreens, they were bright and bursting with green the little bit of sunlight shined down on the evergreens giving them life once more, they stood tall and green all year never falling never becoming, naked, bare, gnarled and ugly looking

Malachi was like the other trees, while they changed colors throughout the seasons, a pumpkin orange color varied with a cocoa bean brown color and only tiny bit of green in the fall, green in summer, bright blooming flowers that came in assorted colors each different then the rest almost like a box a chocolates you never know what you get until you take the wrapper off, but in the winter the trees were hideous

Naked

Bare

Gnarled

Ugly looking

Malachi was in fact just like these trees, he changed like them but he changed every week or so, one day he was happy another day the voices in his head were making him go crazy, he was going off on people, talking to himself, drinking

But not the evergreens they stayed happy all year and Malachi envied that, he envied people who shared a strong connections with the evergreens...who were just like them...happy all year

But it seemed he couldn't stay happy for long he started to ponder if happiness was for him it was like this dark tornado bringing him in every time he found something that made him happy, it turned him evil, made him crazy

At this point nothing could help Malachi no matter how many pills he was described the voices they never left, they made him do things he didn't want to do, things you couldn't even imagine, he wanted to stay away from the ones he loved so he locked himself in his room, banging on his head telling them to go away but they got louder they were no longer the quiet whispers Malachi could ignore they were screaming at him

He had to do whatever they were telling him to do to shut them up. So he did, he did what they told him to do

And now he was paying for it, paying for what they told him to do 9 years ago,
