thresh's pov of the hunger games

I wake up and exit my room to find my grandma curled up in a ball on the couch crying. I go over to her and give her a hug then I wipe away her tears. "we'll be fine grandma, there's lots of teenagers in district 11. It's not likely that I will be picked and near will Fern." I tell her and go to wake up my 14 year old sister, Fern. I go in and see Fern is already up and looking at a picture of my mother, father and Collin, our older brother who was sent to the hunger games and he lasted until there was only 8 people left but then the career pack caught up to him. My parents were killed by a peacekeeper. My father insulted p.snow and after an epic fist fight he hit my parents over the head with a gun and they died from head injury. Since then weve lived with our grandma in a small cottage. I sit down beside Fern on her bed and hold up her pink flouncy dress that we laid out last night for the reaping. "you should get dressed and then I'll do your hair." I say and leave her bedroom and go to put on my best and only suit. When I'm done getting dressed I meet Fern in the bathroom and do her hair in a bun that our mom used to do. Even though I'm one of the touphest boys in my grade I love the feel Fern's long black silky hair. When I'm done I stick a daffodil in her bun as a special then kiss her on the head. "Fern I want you to have this. As long as you have it promise me you won't be picked to go to the games." I give her a thick gold ring with a big square ruby jewel on it that I got from my dad. "thank you thresh it's beautiful." we leave the house and on the way to the reaping we stop at the park and sit on a bench. "Thresh will you sing me our song?" Fern asks. I sing her a song my mother wrote: if only if only the mockinjay sings, the bark on the orchards was very soothing, as the wolf waits at night, hungry and lonely he howls to the moon if only if only 

"You have the most beautiful singing voice Thresh." I sang it to her again and remembered that collin's mentor sent him the lyrics in the hunger games. Many people have stopped to listen to us sing. When we finish everyone claps but my friends just walked away. We went to the ginormous town square and got ready for a boy and girl to be put to death.
