2. a love like icarus

remember, said the father
never fly too low or too high
the fogs of the earth can weigh you down
and the sun's blaze will melt your feathers

icarus was filled with joy and terror
heart stopping when he glanced downwards
a grin on his face as he flew up
makin' his way to mount olympus above

my love for him is a love like icarus—
(icarus flew towards his death,
thanatos a close shadow behind him,
ready to take him to hades.)

i, icarus, smiled at him, the sun—
and let him scorch me with blazing trails
my love for him is a love like icarus—
too close, too much
— a poem about my love for the sun
