Savanna knew she had to go home, but the more she walked through the forest the more she walked away from the direction the compound was in. She wasn't quite ready to report back.
Not wanting to feel guilt anymore she she shifted into a animal she considered her most important, even though the fox was her favorite go-to, this one helt a special place in her heart.
Her limbs stretched comfortably into the mold of the animal, fillings every void that the barn had left in her heart, the soft fur giving comfort against the coldness she felt. She trotted through the forest now as one of its inhabitants and not as a threat.
She enjoyed the light breeze fluffing up her pelt and the sharpened sounds of the forest around her. Her ears pricked at the sound of running water up ahead.
Suddenly feeling thirsty she made her way towards the sound and soon emerged into a small clearing beside a gracefully calm river. The water tasted sweet on her tongue, it soothed the aching dryness in her throat and gave her the energy she so desperately needed.
Feeling at peace once again she made herself comfortable under the shade of the tree, falling asleep to the gentle sound of the river.
Savanna woke up with a fright as she felt something tightening its self around her throat, she struggled against it and whirled around to see the figure of a man, holding a rope, the rope tightened ever further around her throat.
In a panic she shook her mighty head and snapped the rope right of. Fuelled by rage she looked up at the man only to see a mask covering the coward's face.
A deep growl rumbled in her throat as she took a threatening step toward the man. Something shiny caught her eye as she saw the man taking out a knife, acting on instinct only she launched herself at him, not taking the knife into consideration she felt a sickening pain in her side as he plunged the knife into her ribcage, she felt her flesh being ripped as he brought the knife up towards her heart.
A yelp of pain escaped her muzzle as she shot herself away from the man. She stood at a odd angle because of her new wound. She refused to give up though and jumped at him again, this time avoiding the knife, with one final swipe she knocked him of his feet, still staying clear of the knife.
Anger shot through her as she saw the man had taken her things right from under her nose when she was asleep, she knocked the knife out of the now trembling hand of the man and brought her muzzle down towards his throat snarling like a true beast, but she just couldn't bring herself to take a nother life that night so instead she grabbed her things and ran of into the night leaving the man crying with relieve.
Feeling light headed she slumped against a tree, the cut on her side had caused her a lot of blood loss, she had to get help, and fast. The best option was to head to the nearest town because the compound was to far away for her to survive the trip back.
Shifting back into a human she inspected the gash on her side, blood was seeping out of it, it cut across almost her entire waist. She made a make shift bandage and started towards the nearest town.
Hours passed when she finally stumbled into the main road of a town. Not having enough strength to go any further she threw herself blindly in front of the next car passing by. The tires screeched as the car came to a sudden hult.
An elderly woman stepped out of the car and hurried to Savanna's side "Is everything all right dear?" Her voice sounded sweet and frail. The sweet woman's eyes widened as she saw the terrible gash on Savanna's side "Oh my! We have to get you to a hospital!"
The lady quickly helped Savanna up, struggling with the weight she made her way slowly to the car and layed her as gently as she could into the back seat.
Savanna winced as the gash made contact with the rough material of the seat. She swayed in and out if sleep as they drove to the hospital. Savanna smiled weakly as she thought about how she was supposed to explain this once they got there. With that thought still in mind she drifted off into a bumpy, painful sleep.
