He and his family attended Church of the Incarnation, 1290 St. Nicholas Avenue, New York, New York 10033-7204. In 1952, Michael Farmer fell ill to polio and was completely paralyzed. Doctors did not think Michael would ever walk again. Michael underwent intense physical therapy and slowly regained use of his fine motor skills. It was a long and slow process but Michael became strong enough to maneuver a wheelchair and eventually was fitted for leg braces. Through hard work, determination, and a positive attitude, Michael built up the undamaged muscle tissue in his legs and learned to walk again. However, he walked with a slight limp and dragged his right foot.

Michael Farmer and Roger McShane (born 1941, West 170th Street, New York, New York 10032), not gang members, were walking through Highbridge Park, in Washington Heights, when they were ambushed by eighteen gang members from two allied gangs, the Egyptian Kings and the Dragons. Michael, unable to run, was beaten and stabbed to death with fists, a dog chain, garrison belts, stabbed with a knife and machete. Michael Farmer died 30 July 1957 at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center.
