“Casie,” I whisper to her as her crying slows down, “tell me what’s going on.”
She looks up at me, sniffling, “Whe…when I was b…born, I wa…was born to a…a criminal.”
I interrupt her to calm her down, “Shhh for a second. Take deep breaths.” She does as I said and I pull her over to sit under a tree. “Alright, now keep going.” I say as I put my arm around her shoulders and rub her arm.
