In Greek mythology, Pheme was the goddess of fame, rumour, report and gossip; those who followed her were distinguished and renowned, while those who disobeyed her were hated and plagued by rumors. She was Gaea's or Elpis's daughter. Pheme was reported to study the affairs of mortals and immortals, then whisper them to a few people at first, but her voice progressively grew louder until everyone knew. She was frequently shown with wings and a horn in her hand.
