This is also a theory. I believe Pink diamond is "wrong" or at least according to homeworld. She has an upside down diamond shape, is extremely small compared to other diamonds, and only has one colony. I believe she was supposed to be red because all the other diamonds are prime colours (white doesn't really count as a colour but that's beside the point). Also considering her childish and angry manner, the colour red would suit this. This would also explain why yellow diamond doesn't seem to show any emotion of her loss and actually doesn't seem to like her at all because Pink diamond was a mistake or an off-colour.
