Chapter 8

Daniel: FINALLY!! I want to see my mate in human form!

Me: Yeah, yeah. I'm on it.

Jesse POV

It's been a few days since Zayn was rescued. He talks with the other pack members, but still only lets Daniel and I, plus my Mom, to touch him. His wounds are starting to heal faster and he's gaining weight, but it's been hard trying to break his habits. He still feels like he needs to be punished whenever something bad happens. 

'I am going to kill that bastard when we find him.'  Rain growled.

I agree.

'YOU CAN'T TELL ME WHAT TO D-! Wait....What?'

I said that I agree we should kill the bastard.

'Really? Cause I was expecting you to object.'

Why?

'I....don't know.'

I couldn't help but laugh at that. In any other situation I would be trying to control Rain's homicidal tendencies, but when it comes to my mates' protection I'm willing to go along with him. "Whatcha laughing at?" Daniel asked. We were laying together on the couch, Zayn sleeping on my chest.

"Just talking with Rain." He hummed, running his finger through my hair with one hand and petting Zayn with the other. " I'm glad we're mates." I sighed, leaning into his hand.

"I'm glad we are too." He said, smiling. "And I'm glad we have Zayn."

I glanced down at our other mate and couldn't help but smile too. "Yeah. At least he ended up with us and not somewhere worse." Daniel was about to respond when Zayn started letting out small whimpers. He must be having another nightmare. We sat up and tried tried to wake him. His eyes opened, but instead of the whimpers quieting they escalated into high-pitched shrieks. "Zayn! Zayn whats wrong?!"

'H-Hurts."

"What hurts Zayn?" Daniel calmly asked, even though I could practically feel the panic rolling off him in waves.

'E-Everything.'

"WHAT'S HAPPENING?!" The rest of the pack had heard the cries and rushed to the living room.

"WE DON'T KNOW!! WE THOUGHT HE WAS HAVING A NIGHTMARE, BUT HE'S AWAKE!!" I was extremely panicked.

"Give him to me!" My mom held out her hands. I handed Zayn over and she took him upstairs. By the time the rest of us got to the room, she was already running tests. After a few minutes she sighed in relief. "It seems that the medicine I've been giving him is finally working." She turned to us, "He's shifting."

"Why is he in so much pain then?" Zero asked.

"Because he hasn't shifted for years." She replied, "Not only is his wolf growing, but so is his human side and any other forms he may have." Zayn let out another shriek.

"Can't you give him anything for the pain?" Lex asked, looking at the pup in sympathetic pain.

My mom shook her head, "I can't. If he shifts with a needle in him it will break off and could cause injury."

Zayn let out another cry and began to convulse on the bed. Daniel and I rushed to his side and tried to calm him down. "Shhhh. It's okay Zayn. It should be over soon." He cried out again as his fur began to recede.

Before long there was a human Zayn laying on the bed. I quickly took off my white shirt and dressed him. It was way too big for him, but it was better than him being naked in front of the whole pack. Even as a human Zayn was small. He was pale with long black hair. Instead of the golden eyes he had as a wolf he had one gold eye and one blue eye. But what really surprised us were THE CAT EARS AND TAIL!!

"Hmmm." My dad said, leaning closer. "I guess a was correct. You do have another form." Zayn nodded. "I'm guessing it's a cat with blue eyes?" Another nod. "Well that finishes off the hybrid theory." Zayn tilted his head in confusion. "Well, first, neither of you parents were supernatural and second, hybrids look almost completely the same in any form. The have the same eye color and the same fur color. They don't switch and I have never heard of a hybrid that keeps any animal features in their human forms."

He reached out to touch one of the ears, only to have Zayn shy away from him and cling to me.

Zayn POV

I didn't mean to react like that. It was insitict in this form. I clung to Jesse's arm and hide my face in his shoulder, whimpering. I ached all over from the shift. I felt a hand begin to stroke my ears. "Hey, hey. It's okay Zayn." Danny said in a calming voice, "No one's going to hurt you." I raised my head and saw him smiling at me.

Now that all the excitement was over I was starting to feel really tired. Tori noticed after I yawned. "Shifting after so long must have tuckered you out." She stated, "You should go get some sleep."

I nodded and tried to stand, but my legs wouldn't cooperate. Danny caught me before I could fall on my face and scooped me up. I was too tired to try to get down and soon sleep washed over me.

Daniel POV

Zayn is so cute. His human form is small enough for me to carry bridal style. His eyes were amazing and his tail and ears made him even cuter. But we really need to get him some clothes that fit. I mean, it's better than him being naked, but I don't think I would be able to control Dusk from ravaging him next time. I sighed and carried him to our room, Jesse holding any doors open for us.

Zayn stirred when we reached the room and blinked when Jesse handed him a pair of boxers, "We need you to put these on, then you can sleep." Zayn slowly slipped them on, holding onto me for support. I picked him back up and sat him down on the bed, where he immediately laid down.

Jesse and I changed before crawling into bed. Zayn was already asleep, but as soon as we laid down he nuzzled into my chest and wrapped his tail around Jesse's waist. We smiled at each other before saying goodnight and letting sleep take us away.
